We had the good fortune of connecting with Sneha Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sneha, how does your business help the community?
Our mission at South Asians in Sustainability is to improve the well being of our South Asian community through social change. We exist to empower others in our community to think about sustainability not just as another popular ‘buzz’ word. In order to sustain the world we live in, we must acknowledge that we as individuals have the power to change. Our values are to empower, transform, and unify the South Asian community through connection and sustainability.
We are helping the community through education, resources, and building tools to help them become change advocates and future leaders of the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
South Asians in Sustainability is a grassroot enterprise that is under 2 years young. My journey started few years ago when I had an opportunity to volunteer with a local NGO in Mumbai, India helping to empower slum community of Dharavi. Even though the experience was short lived, it heavily impacted my outlook on life. The immense gratitude I felt knowing how blessed I am to be able to live a comfortable life in the States. After I became a mother (now a Mom of 2 beautiful children), I went on a self-discovery journey. A journey that was led by facing anxiety during the pandemic, which made me re-evaluate my ‘why’. My purpose since then has been to continue on the path of service. Serving others my ability to connect with others on a deeper empathic level.
I believe my work in this life isn’t complete, I’ve learned that anyone has the innate ability to impact positive change in our society and communities and through that awareness we are able to take an action forward. At our core, we are heavily focused on empowering underprivileged communities in India, specifically helping improve women & children’s menstrual & mental health. I am hoping to make a scratch the surface through my organization to do just that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ahh this is a tricky one! I would absolutely say New York City. We would visit parks, find inspiration & catch up on life at coffee shops over cappuccinos, and eat all the things.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
