We had the good fortune of connecting with somanshu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi somanshu, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been somewhat of an introvert eversince I was a kid, and it might sound cliche but I’ve always found an escape via music. I started off by making Piano covers of my favorite dance music artists and even got supported by some of them including Alan Walker, KSHMR, Illenium, and more. That made me wonder why not try making music full time. That’s how I started my music-making journey
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m grateful to be able to pursue music full time however, the journey has never been easy, I come from a remote village in the hills of Uttarakhand called ‘Bhowali’. Getting to do music as a career itself is a huge thing for me let alone getting to make music and travel the world with India’s biggest artist ‘Arijit Singh’. Life has been kind. I try not to consider anything as a ‘challenge’ but rather treat them as a part of my journey. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is to keep your head down and work towards your goals.
I want to let the world know that anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself. Your race, the place you’re born in shouldn’t define you or your goals.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been too many mentors and people to be thankful for in my story. But definitely, my mom would be the one I’d want to give a shoutout to. She’s the one who ‘pushed’ me into Hindustani Classical Lessons when I was 5. In an Indian household, it’s very unorthodox to choose an art form as your professional career but she has always had my back and has been super supportive throughout.
