We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonovia Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonovia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
San Diego, CA is were the journey began. My mother has been a large influence in my fashion sense. She passed down an archive of clothing to me that she wore from her teenage to young adult years. My mother would show me different was to style each piece and how to look upscale on a budget. As a little girl I pictured myself in a castle surrounded by unique fashion. I knew that one day, I would have the chance to create my very own mark in the fashion industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a keen eye for fashion, I feel this sets me apart from others when creating unique content. When I had the opportunity to style the cover of CRWN Magazine I was elated. Watching the drop of each seasons issue, I knew I would be pushed creatively. Getting to this point of my life was not easy……man it still isn’t. By pushing myself, going to different sceneries and keeping God first is the only way that’s keeping me alive, as a creator. I want to let the world know, that you as an individual belong and deserve the goals you want to achieve. To kick imposter syndrome in the face! Don’t let past trauma defer you from your future self. I want to create a “life style”in the entertainment industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I wanted to take my best friend to a certain place it would be to New York City. This city is my second home! Even though the walking and subways drive me crazy I still love the culture, food and night life.Like hitting the 40/40 club for a up scale vibe or pulling up to Brooklyn for the dope fashion and mom and pop restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some incredible people,. These two individual molded and left a mark in my creative process. My cousin Rasheedah and my good friend Lan. My cousin Rasheedah showed me the ropes from the beginning. When I was in six or seventh grade she would take me on set with her and introduce me to the production and the artist themselves. She let me be hands on by assisting her with looks and producing the shoot. My friend Lan has giving me opportunities to work with top brands as well as top recording artist.
