We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Egan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor to my success is Harry, my brother, and I’s team work as co-writers and Harry as the producer of my songs. We are able to be honest with each other when we are working and challenge one another as songwriters. When Harry and I first started writing together, we didn’t think about it too much. We have both been writing songs separately our whole lives and one day we decided to write one together. Then Harry offered to produce one of the songs we wrote together, which ended up being my first single “Start the Fire” released in 2019. After that we realized we made better art when we worked together so we just kept working. Since then I have released six of the songs we made and now I am releasing another song of ours called “Ghost Town” on May 7th.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a pop singer-songwriter. I write all my songs with my brother, Harry Egan, and he produces my songs. I think our team work as brother and sister is very unique and it helps both us be more creative. I think something that sets my songs apart from others is we write about anything and everything. From fictional stories to the fear of growing up, we just write about whatever we are thinking of in the moment. I don’t really know what my “sound” or genre is. Harry and I focus mainly on one song at a time. We give that song whatever lyrics, instruments and production it needs to get the story to the listener best. I think that makes my music unique because, to me, each song is so different.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many exciting parts of San Francisco, it’s hard to choose. However, my favorite parts of the city are the little pockets of nature around the city. For example, starting the day with a walk at Lands End that leads to the most amazing view of the water and the Golden Gate Bridge. Or walking up Mount Davidson, going to the top of Twin Peaks, or walking along Crissy Fields. A great place to eat is on Chestnut Street or Soma. A great place to hang out is Haight-Ashbury and to go into each unique store. Another great place is the inner sunset around 9th and Irving which has an entrance to a great part of Golden Gate Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I think of immediately is my mom, Fiona Ryle. She encourages us everyday to work hard on our art. She believes my dreams even when I don’t. Harry and I would not be able to be artists without the love and encouragement of our mom. She is also an artist, an incredible painter with an amazing vision and talent.
