Meet Sophie Marita Bach | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Marita Bach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Finding balance is something I’ve learned to prioritize more and more over time, especially as an actor, where your schedule is rarely consistent. There are periods of total intensity, long days on set, auditions at the last minute; but also stretches where things slow down. You end up having to create your own structure, both in your work life and in your personal life. That’s why creating structure in my day, even when I’m not working, has become really important to me.
Movement is a huge part of that. I love running, it clears my head and gets me into my body. I also do a lot of Yoga and Pilates, which have been amazing not just physically, but for staying grounded mentally and emotionally. And being outside makes a big difference. Going for walks, hiking, spending time by the ocean; it all helps me recharge and come back to myself.
I also think relationships are a big part of balance. My family and my best friends mean the world to me. Having people around who really know you and who keep you grounded, that’s everything.
Balance, for me, doesn’t mean everything is always perfectly scheduled, it’s more about checking in with myself regularly, making space for what I need, and remembering that rest, connection and joy are really important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was lucky to grow up in a very creative environment where expressing yourself was just a natural part of life. I act, I sing, I dance, and I play multiple instruments. Creativity never felt like a separate thing; it was how I experienced the world. That blend of disciplines gives me a more layered perspective when I work. I don’t just see the character, I see the entire story, how it breathes, and how my role fits into that bigger picture.
One of the things I’m most proud of is taking the leap to move to Los Angeles on my own at 20. Leaving my hometown of Cologne was driven by a strong inner calling, I just felt it was the right move. I didn’t have a clear plan and didn’t know that many people there, but I trusted that instinct and fully committed to the journey. Now, looking back, I see how courageous that choice was and how much it helped shape the person I am today.
I grew up in Cologne, Germany, in a house full of music, art, and storytelling. My parents always encouraged creative exploration, and attending a Waldorf school really reinforced that. The arts weren’t just subjects, they were woven into everything we did. Playing the violin and the piano, and being part of orchestras taught me a lot about discipline, emotion, and collaboration.
Later, when I found theatre, it felt like all those different pieces came together. In my final year of school, I played a lead in “Roberto Zucco” by Bernard-Marie Koltès, and something just clicked for me. I truly felt that deep connection between storytelling and self-discovery. From there, it was a clear decision to follow my passion for acting, which led me to Los Angeles to train at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Of course not everything was always easy: moving from a smaller, quieter city like Cologne to a place as fast-paced and sprawling as Los Angeles was definitely a lot. Everything felt new and even though there’s something exciting about that, there’s also something challenging that comes with starting from scratch. Even the small everyday things: adjusting to new routines, understanding a different culture, were challenges. But over time it helped me grow. I learned patience, and I learned how to trust myself. That process shaped me into a stronger and more grounded human being and artist.
I’d really want people to know that I care deeply about honest storytelling. I’m not drawn to performances that feel polished but empty, I’m interested in the messy, complicated, quiet parts of being human. The little moments that often go unnoticed, but say so much. That’s the space where I feel most at home creatively. I’m always searching for the truth underneath everything, things that makes people feel seen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, there are so many wonderful places in this city, I don’t even know where to begin and I’m sure I’ll forget a few. But if my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d definitely have a little itinerary ready to make sure they experience all the magic of LA.
For food I’d take them Tu Madre. I guess you can’t come to LA and not have breakfast burritos. Then maybe a beautiful, special dinner at Laurel Hardware: it’s such a cool spot with a hidden, fairy-light patio that feels like a secret garden. There’s Dialogue, which in my opinion is a must, it’s so LA; and of course, we’d have to grab coffee at Urth Caffé.
For beach days, Malibu and Manhattan Beach are beautiful. Of course there are many more but these are probably my favorites.
For shopping I would say Melrose Trading Post on Sunday: it’s the best mix of vintage finds, jewelry, and local art. We’d spend another afternoon walking down Melrose Avenue or 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica.
For a bit of nature and beautiful views of the city, we’d go hiking by the Griffith Observatory. Catching the sunset from there feels just surreal.
Mostly, I’d just want them to feel the incredible energy of this city: it’s creative, colorful, alive, and full of these little moments that make you fall in love with it over and over again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I want to thank my family. Their love and support have been the foundation of everything I do. They’ve stood by me every step of the way, encouraging me, lifting me up, and inspiring me to keep going. Knowing they’re always there gives me so much strength. I’m also deeply grateful for the close friends who’ve walked alongside me through different chapters of my life. Their presence, understanding, and belief in me have made a lasting impact.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all these wonderful people.
