We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophiea Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophiea, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?

While we work with brands and collaborate with creatives to offer services in branding, storytelling and videography, InnerChild Creatives is first an by-artist-for-artist project and humble movement that invites adults from all levels of experience to explore their inner creativity and celebrate their love for it again. It’s important to us to rediscover the lost spark in us – to keep alive the curious spirit and joy found when we create and connect with the world through our creative expression (drawing, writing, singing, dancing, directing, etc.)

Our personal work and community involvements stand for this: No matter how old we are or how “late” we’ve started our craft, it’s important to live out what we’re passionate about. It doesn’t matter if we’re creating part-time or self-taught. We can still allow ourselves to be called creatives and can have our space in this world to share what matters to us. It’s a continuous journey to enjoy and master your craft(s) throughout a lifetime.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It took a long time to allow myself to be “an artist” as a part of my identity. Although my full-time is entrepreneurship in education and real estate, I hope people can know me for the mission and heart of InnerChild Creatives. I’m a supporter of the importance of mental health awareness and self-expression through creativity. The way I share what’s passionate to me is through storytelling with writing and visuals (cinematography, photography, illustration).

I feel like a late bloomer. I knew from a very young age that I was drawn to the arts. But for most of my life, I’ve refrained from being fully immersed. This push and pull relationship with creativity is what has inspired me to begin InnerChild Creatives because I will have regretted if I never prioritized its mission in my lifetime. And, because I’ve met so many talented creative minds who are shy about sharing their gift or who are juggling between their full-time jobs and their true passion, I find it even more important that we find each other and encourage each other.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I live in different states. When we get together, we like to treat each other to a girls’ night date; we take it easy, and enjoy good food while chatting and catching up.

If you’re like us, here is a little list for you:

Yangmani Korean BBQ – Koreatown (so delicious!)
Firefly – Studio City (great for date night or girls night/ cocktails/full bites)
Mignon – Downtown LA (romantic, cozy wine bar)
Bumsan – Koreatown (soft-serve ice cream)
Intercrew – Koreatown (cocktails)
Boiling Crab – Koreatown (the whole shabang sauce is a must)
Crab House – Koreatown (the marinated raw crab)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very thankful to God, my family, friends, and good people and communities who’ve shaped, grounded, and inspired me. For this season in my life, I want to especially thank my husband for being my forever cheerleader, and encouraging me to pursue and be proud of my creative side and mind.
I used to be very shy about diving deeper into making meaningful work, talking about my ideas and owning them. Sharing your work to people is a very vulnerable process – it’s so visual and everyone has his/her own opinion immediately upon view.
But my husband reminds me that it’s never too late to learn more or pursue something that excites you. And, to never put something on the back burner if it’s important to you.
Having a partner who enjoys listening to your ideas, making them happen with you, while cheering you on is something that I can never take for granted.
