We had the good fortune of connecting with Soyana Pigniagt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Soyana, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
What inspires me is my surroundings. I love to take in what is around me and try to find something new and beautiful about it and learn about it in some way, in order to incorporate it into my work. Becoming more observant has helped me bring my work to another level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an actor in Los Angeles, it can sometimes feel very unattainable to reach your goals, because you are competing with so many other talented people. When the pandemic first hit, I had just graduated from school. All the planning I had done to try and further my career was tossed out the window. I think I can speak for many people when I say it was one of the hardest years. The uncertainty of everything was very stress-inducing. I decided the only thing I could do was focus on the things I knew I had control over. During that time, I made it a priority to reach out to as many managers and agencies I could, attend live streams with casting directors, read books, etc. Overall just making sure I was honing my skills as an actor. Two years later, we have reached some sort of “normalcy” and I feel like I’ve been able to hit the ground running at full speed. I believe that is something that set’s me apart from others. My drive and resilience. It would have been so easy for me to give up and focus on other things, but I know what I want in life and I am going to get it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I’d take them out to eat at Gracias Madre in WeHo. It is a vegan/vegetarian Mexican-based restaurant and the food is to die for! Next would be drinks. There is this great place called the Barbershop. It’s basically a speakeasy, it looks like a barbershop from the outside so it can be very hard to miss. But when you walk in and go through this door they have inside you are transported to this awesome lounge bar and a mini dance floor. 10/10 would recommend, it’s so fun! Then, we’d go to a museum or exhibition! I recently went to the Van Gough exhibition and it was breathtaking. And to top it off, going on a hike.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to recognize my dad. He has always supported me and my dreams and because of that, there never was a dream that seemed too big for me to obtain.
