Meet Spencer Folmar | Film Director & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Folmar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been staying true to my purpose and vision as a filmmaker. I’ve always aimed to tell authentic, impactful stories that challenge and inspire audiences. That focus—combined with hard work, persistence, and a willingness to adapt—has allowed me to navigate the ups and downs of this industry. Faith has also been a cornerstone, guiding my decisions and giving me the strength to persevere when challenges arise. Success, for me, comes down to creating work that resonates deeply with people while staying true to my core values.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art revolves around storytelling that is raw, authentic, and deeply resonant. As a filmmaker, I focus on creating stories that explore the complexity of the human experience—our struggles, our victories, and the grace we find in the middle of it all. My work often lives at the intersection of faith and realism, breaking the mold of traditional “faith-based” films by embracing the unvarnished truth about the world while still pointing to hope and redemption. What sets my art apart is this commitment to honesty—our stories don’t shy away from hard questions or tough realities, but they always point to the light.
One of the projects I’m most proud of is Saint Nick of Bethlehem, a heartfelt holiday story inspired by real events. It encapsulates the spirit of what I aim to create: meaningful, relatable narratives that leave a lasting impact. I’m also excited about how Hard Faith Films continues to grow, carrying the motto “Telling Stories That Liberate” into every project we touch.
Getting to where I am today has been anything but easy. Filmmaking is a challenging industry, and navigating it with a vision that doesn’t always fit the mainstream has required persistence and faith. There were moments of rejection, financial struggle, and self-doubt, but I leaned heavily on my faith in God, the support of my incredible wife McKenna, and the belief that the stories I was telling mattered. Overcoming these challenges meant embracing grit, learning from every failure, and staying true to my purpose.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way are numerous, but one stands out: Stay authentic. The world will try to shape you into what’s safe or marketable, but authenticity is what resonates with people and builds lasting connections. Another key lesson is that success doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s built on relationships, teamwork, and the willingness to listen, learn, and collaborate.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we’re here to tell stories that matter—stories that don’t shy away from the brokenness of the human condition but ultimately shine a light on hope, redemption, and grace. Hard Faith Films exists to liberate hearts, challenge minds, and inspire lives through honest storytelling. That’s the legacy I hope to leave.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure they experienced the Rust Belt charm that makes filming in Pennsylvania so special. There’s something raw and authentic about this region—the history etched into old factories, the hardworking spirit in every small town, and the resilience of its people. It’s a place where stories practically leap off the landscape, full of grit and hope.
I love filming here because the locations have soul. The abandoned steel mills, the weathered brick buildings, and even the rolling farmland all carry a sense of history and purpose. And the people? They’re some of the most genuine, salt-of-the-earth folks you’ll ever meet. They remind me why I tell stories—to honor lives lived with determination and heart. Central Pennsylvania, and the Rust Belt in general, isn’t just a backdrop for my films; it’s a character in its own right. It embodies the spirit of perseverance and faith that fuels so much of what I do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible love and support of my wife, McKenna Folmar. She has been my anchor, my encourager, and my greatest blessing. Her belief in me, even in the toughest seasons, has been nothing short of extraordinary. McKenna, you are my rock, and I owe so much of where I am today to your unwavering faith and love.
Above all, I want to dedicate my shoutout to Jesus Christ. He has been my ultimate guide, giving me purpose, strength, and inspiration every step of the way. His grace and direction have shaped not just my career but my entire life. Everything I do, I strive to do for His glory.
To McKenna and to Jesus—thank you for being the foundation of everything I am and everything I hope to be.
