We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spencer, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being creative is in my blood. I wanted to showcase my abilities through a means of self-expression and artistic creativity. My company, Monster + Ghost, allows me to do this on every level. I have total control over the products I choose to share with people. In many ways, they are getting a glimpse into my life which is filled with happiness and joy, struggles and hardships. All of my passion goes into creating new products that will appeal to the masses.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My company Monster + Ghost specializes in luxury home fragrances. More specifically, all-natural hand-poured candles and hand-dipped incense. I create high-quality home fragrances for people moved by art, luxury, and culture. By incorporating these aspects into my company’s vision, something truly special emerges and gives way for the backbone of Monster + Ghost.

I’m most proud to contribute an awesome product that people can enjoy in the comfort of their homes. A person’s home is intimate and providing a vibe in these settings is in many regards an honor that I cherish.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a huge foodie and love to eat at a great restaurant. Los Angeles is home to some of the best. Yamashiro is a must! This place is a vibe. It’s a Japanese restaurant located in the hills of Hollywood and overlooks the city. I also love Bestia. It’s an Italian restaurant in the arts district in Downtown LA. Their menu is constantly changing and they offer some amazingly unique cocktails. If there’s one thing people know about me it’s that I love donuts. They’re literally my guilty pleasure. I try not to overindulge but when I do I love a good ol’ maple bar from DK’s Donuts. Lastly, what’s a trip to Los Angeles without street tacos? Food writer and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain introduced me to a taco truck called Mariscos Jalisco. Not only can you get a really good deep-fried shrimp taco but, they also have several variations of ceviche and aguachiles. One of my favorites!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Father, Claude Phillips introduced me to the world of home fragrance and is the reason why I started my company. My two dogs, Monster and Ghost were the driving force behind my entrepreneurial pursuit. They are my motivation and source of inspiration. I read a book this year titled “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and it completely changed my perspective on the importance of financial literacy and financial independence.
