We had the good fortune of connecting with Spodee Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spodee, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I recently had a son to add to the addition of my beautiful. Ayan Graves. It is a huge transition when my wife is branding herself & us accomplishing goals as entrepreneurs. My next venture is opening up a new kitchen in Tallahassee, FL this year entitled “The Chef’s Trap”. Idea started in Atlanta after my marriage & realized my wife became pregnant with our son. So I put the venture on hold and focused on “Jazzd By Yaz” a hair styling brand followed by my wife Yasmine Graves. Thays absolutely flourishing & I can’t be nothing but proud of her. Yall will be hearing about her real real soon.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My new venture “The Chefs Trap” will be located off MLK Dr. In Tallahassee,FL. I choose Tallahassee because thats where my roots started. My family is from Tallahassee & a wise man told me, “you have to know where you come from to know where your going”. That man wasn’t lying. I wanted to one be in the college area where I’m around FAMU & FSU, also wanted to show my folks how amazing I could be by doing things on my own without working and being a slave to these white folk thats a bigger issue out here in South GA & North Florida. The route im on is bigger than food & I can’t wait to show the world the difference you can make by just being yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With me being a traveling chef, I’ve been on tour with some of my clients. This country we live in has amazing features. Yet I’m from Atlanta. There is no food close to Atlanta’s other than Charlotte really. One of my fav. Go to places will always be “Nick & Mike’s Bar & Grill” not to far from Charlotte University. The Mambo Wings is to die for & also bring life to the night life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
