Meet Stavros Tsarouhas | Music Producer / Songwriter / Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stavros Tsarouhas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stavros, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Chios, a Greek island that neighbors Turkey and it is famous for the Mastic trees, who only produce the famous healing resin in that island and nowhere else in the world(magic). My village, Kardamyla is a seamen and fishermen place. Most of my family and other families there are either captains, in the navy, or working in shipping.
I was born and raised there till my teen years.
It was very simple yet special, to walk to school by the sea and fishing boats, not worried about crime, saying hello and knowing by name every grandma and elder on the street, breathing fresh air and overall just not having too much input, mostly nature. It gave me a deep love for nature, appreciating the scenery and understanding when or when i am not breathing clean air.
Thats also where I started my music journey. My mother was the dj at our nightclub for many years.
She continued working while pregnant to me. I was spending so much time in that nighclub from a baby till an adult, especially in the summer season, listening to the hits every year, kind of like a music education but without me knowing it.
I was surrounded by so much music on a daily basis as a kid and as a teenager.
Started keyboard lessons at 5, classical piano at 11, guitar with my first band at 13.
Played keyboards at 15 with my Prog Rock band -Black Out-
At 18 I was playing live shows all the time either as a drummer with my Grunge Rock band LiE or as a lead vocalist for my death metal band Blame Your God.
When I moved to the US at age 20 I chose to study at IAR in NYC and an internship with Claude Kelly after that, kind of sealed the deal for me.
I was so inspired by what I was witnessing, it was inevitable that I would be in the music scene for ever.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make art as a way of surviving. Me and my family immigrated to New York from Athens, Greece when I was twenty, I had to work hard doing various jobs to make ends meet. At the same time, I was making music on a daily basis.
At some point I lost my job at a restaurant I was working for 4 years at the time and just focused on making music. I was working so much, with so many artists and songwriters, day in and day out. A small pub deal i signed at the time in nyc really helped bring the traffic through.
Being influenced by music from around the world as a Greek, being open as a spirit, bringing positive energy in the room, and being as versatille as I can, makes my approach unique.
My records need to speak to me, give me chills, dive under my skin.
The goal always needs to be honest music just like it is for an actor to give truthful moments on stage.
The main lesson I have learned is that the magic is within us.
Collaborating teaches us new techniques and ways to think of music, but if we don’t work on expanding our own horizons, if we don’t try to develop a great music taste, if we keep working on the same things, no collaboration, no deal, no other person will bring the greatness out of us. Only we can do it.
I would love to impact as many people as i can with my music. Give them a reason to dance, to cry or to feel exhilarated.
One of my main goals is to start releasing music as an artist again(which I am doing this year).
I definitely want to have many businesses and successes but I also want to have free time to spend with my loved ones. To travel, to explore this planet.
The end of my career could be 50 years from now and things change, but one thing that won’t change is how we treat ourselves and others. I definitely want to be on the good side of things.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Having resided in Los Angeles for less than a year, it would have been a collaborative exploration, but I do have some favorites to show. Definitely hit Aroma Cafe in Studio City for breakfast, then drive by the skate park on Venice beach to take some pictures, lunch at Sugar Fish in downtown. Then take a hike over the hills, snack after that at Carrera Cafe in Weho.
After that we hit Griffith Observatory for some views and a movie at the Hollywood Cemetery and then dinner at my all time favorite Saffys in Los Feliz.
Go to a show after that at the Roxy or Peppermint Club and finish with drinks at Chateau Marmont.
That would be a great day in my opinion!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family most of all, has been very supportive of my music journey. Their love for music has been passed down to me. They have been pushing me to keep going, to always get better and to aim for the stars!
Also my manager Constantine, he has been a very important part in the development of my songwriting career since we started working together almost 6 years ago. He has believed in me the most.
Some credit has to also go to the greats before me, that moved me with their music, inspired me to want to become one of the greats myself.
