We had the good fortune of connecting with Stella Musi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stella, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Throughout my career, I have witnessed a significant evolution in my work-life balance. Initially, I was fully immersed in my work, devoting myself to it at all hours of the day. However, as I progressed professionally, I began to appreciate the value of time spent away from my laptop more and more. I discovered that without adequate rest and opportunities to indulge in life’s pleasures, my creativity suffered, and the spark necessary for my best work started to fade.
I believe that passion and hard work are crucial, but I have come to realize that taking breaks and embracing the joys of life are essential for both inspiration and success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an Art Director with a background in Graphic Design, and I’ve had the chance to work in various industries, like entertainment, education, advertising, social media, and beauty.
What makes me unique is my diverse experience across these different fields. It allows me to think outside the box and apply different techniques to find solutions that others may not consider.
For example, I’ve had the opportunity to work on graphics for movies like John Wick and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I’ve also helped UCLA with their internal communications and collaborated on Snapchat campaigns with partners like Google and Disney. Working with such a range of clients and projects has sharpened my problem-solving skills and nurtured my creativity. This versatility is crucial for a creative professional.
Sometimes, I had to tackle subjects that were new to me. But I quickly educated myself and became an expert on those topics. It’s the best way for a designer to deliver outstanding work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What I love most about Los Angeles is its natural beauty! So, my itinerary would revolve around that.
I’d start with a hike at Solstice Canyon in Malibu, followed by enjoying some wine at the cozy Old Place Cornell.
On the second day, I’d spend a relaxing day at Lechuza Beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the beach vibes with a pic nic.
For the third day, I’d plan a winery hiking tour with Malibu Hikes, where I can explore beautiful vineyards while going on a hike.
Lastly, I’d head to Topanga for two fantastic experiences. First, I’d treat myself to delicious pizza at Endless Color, known for its amazing taste. Then, I’d go on a hike in the scenic surroundings of Topanga.
I also highly recommend horseback riding in Griffith Park, followed by a hike to either the observatory or the reservoir. These activities offer a mix of excitement and breathtaking views, ensuring an unforgettable time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The most significant influence on my career journey has undeniably been my mother. Her unwavering belief in me and unwavering support have been invaluable in every decision I have made. She guided me in choosing the right path, offered guidance on developing various projects, and instilled in me the importance of perseverance and positivity. She serves as a true role model, and her strategic thinking has played a pivotal role in my personal and professional growth.
Moreover, I have had the privilege of encountering numerous professionals throughout my career who have profoundly impacted my development. As a young and aspiring individual, I received invaluable feedback from experienced colleagues, even when it was critical. Constructive criticism allowed me to learn and improve, while positive feedback served to boost my confidence. Their guidance and mentorship have played a significant role in shaping my journey forward.
