We had the good fortune of connecting with Stella Webb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stella, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The comfort zone is not where the magic happens. I like to push myself to a place of slight discomfort, this is how I know I’m making progress. Risks are just a part of that, every day we are faced with an abundance of choices and if you get bogged down in which ones are the right ones ultimately you’ll paralyze yourself. Take artistic risks where possible, that’s how art moves forward. Growth can often be uncomfortable but that’s when you know it’s working.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As soon as I moved to LA I found myself unexpectedly writing a lot of music for myself. My upcoming project, an EP called “Cowgirl, Blue” is a collection of 4 songs that tell the story of my first 4 months in this city. Music is one of those creative endeavors that takes a lot of self-belief and luckily I have reached a point where I am super proud of the songwriting/production in this project. I think it can take a lot of inner-work to prepare to be vulnerable so outwardly, especially since these songs are deeply personal. The sound I have found finally feels very natural and not forced so I am excited for people to hear this version of me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely have to go to All season Brewing Co. its my favourite spot to hang with friends and grab a drink/taco on the weekend. I think the beach is a must and maybe a hike in Malibu, I find the mountains here very grounding. Elysian Park is lovely for a picnic and there are some great places to eat on the east-side, maybe we’d also hit a flea-market on Sunday depending on what’s open. Ocean Park is my favourite beach stretch as it’s a little less busy than Santa Monica or Venice. I also like to take visitors to the Beverly Hills flats, it’s kind of dystopian because the houses and lawns are all so manicured.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my mum, she raised me as a single mother and I really owe a lot of my creativity to her, she is always encouraging me to express myself. My mum is my number one fan and I am so grateful for her support. Also my friends and musical collaborators, having such a strong network of fun and creative people is something I will never take for granted.
