We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I grew up in an immigrant household so the priority was always work, work, work. I have been working in my family business since I was 15 years old. I used to glorify being busy all the time and everything else came second. I didn’t understand the importance of having a work life balance until I had my second daughter. With my first born, I rushed to get back to the office a week after I had given birth. I would bring my baby to work with me and feed her in between meetings or during phone calls. I was afraid that if I didn’t work hard enough, I would be failing in my career and I would be failing my family.
When my youngest daughter was born 2.5 years ago, I had an epiphany. I decided to put my “mom guilt” aside and focus on being the best version of myself both at work and outside of work.
I have a mantra that I say to myself “When I’m at work, I’m at work… When I’m home, I’m home.” It sounds like something so simple but that has really helped me balance my work and home life. I really do think that we can be both great mothers and great business women.
What should our readers know about your business?
Here at SERVPRO we are in the business of helping those during their time of need.
SERVPRO specializes in water damage clean up, fire and smoke clean up, mold remediation, and biohazard clean up for both residential and commercial properties.
We work with homeowners or business owners that are experiencing a disaster in their home or place of business.
My family and I specifically own four franchises in the southern California area: Whittier, La Habra/ W. Fullerton, Santa Fe Springs/ Pico Rivera, and Bell Gardens/ Paramount. However, we work anywhere outside those areas and also travel to different states to assist when a national disaster occurs such as a hurricane or wild fires.
It’s a blessing to be able to help our customers during their time of need. Most of the time we receive a call from our clients and they are devastated! It is our job to help them get back to their home or business in a timely manner.
We have learned so much during the 15 years that we have been here in Whittier. What we are most grateful for is the opportunity to serve our community during their time of need. We love being able to assist and educate them through the restoration process of their home or building.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love working in the city of Whittier! Everyone is so welcoming and kind. On a daily you can catch me grabbing a Cafe de olla from La Monarca Bakery in uptown Whittier or shopping at the cutest little shop- Casita del Pueblo.
Uptown Whittier is a beautiful place to visit. Find a place to park on Greenleaf Avenue and walk up and down the shops and cute restaurants. You will not be disappointed!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would not be able to get up everyday and do what I do if it wasn’t for my family. I have been working with my family for the last 15 years and it does not come without it’s obstacles but we wouldn’t have it any other way. I am extremely grateful to have parents that I can rely on not only for help with my kids but also to mentor me with the business. I also have an extremely supportive husband that I work with and encourages me with my career and personal goals.
