We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Muelz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
It would have to be finding balance in my life. I am currently having the most successful month of my career and I have been focusing on all the little things. From sleeping at least 6 hours a night, eating healthier, training, to allocating more time to my loved ones. All this alongside focusing on my craft has really made a difference.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started videography out of self expression during a time period of depression. Which then helped me create Vibrealism – a 21st-century avant-garde movement in digital art and visuals which sought to release ones self expression through vibrations. Vibrations in this context – colors, sounds, shapes, feelings, visuals etc. Creating visuals under this art form helps me tell stories through feeling and raw emotion.
The common denonimators in my career that helped me succeed have been the hustle, persistency and time allocated towards the craft. Approaching the journey as a marathon instead of a race has helped me pace myself through the obstacles. As long as I can improve a little each day, I know I’ll be destined for greatness over time. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to maintain balance through it all. Focus on all aspects of your life and not just the career. This will help improve decision making and overall performance in what ever you’re doing.
After 41/2 years of creating visuals I’ve connected with hundreds of creatives from all over the world; which is really exciting for me now because I am building a new culture/community for underground creatives to work together and help each other win. Especially being from NYC, I understand how rare it is for creatives to want to help each other succeed. This has now become a huge focus for me; which is why I am currently pushing the Cyphers. I want the world to see that if we unite and work together we can elevate and succeed together. I want to see everybody win and reach their dreams. And if I can be voice that sparks the conversation then I’ll happily do it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First things first we need to go eat lol cause I LOVE food. There’s a deli in Harlem called Nadal’s Deli; which make one of the best chopped cheeses in the city. We also need to stop by Flippers, Dos Caminos and a steakhouse. We’ll definitely go check out couple museums; e.g (MoMa, The Met and any pop up exhibitions). Honestly, I love hosting events; so I’ll host a cypher, party and bbq separately each day. Those typically have amazing energy and overall unique experience. The rest of the time will be indulged in seeing or creating art. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to the entire underground creative community. There are so many talented creatives that don’t have a proper platform or opportunity to express themselves. They motivate and inspire me everyday and me being hip to what’s going on has really pushed me to go harder. Lastly, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to my mentor Matt Gray. He’s the reason why I am going to achieve more than I can imagine. He believed in me at a time where nobody was. Extremely grateful!!
