We had the good fortune of connecting with Studio Outliers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Studio, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Community support and collaboration. By lifting each other up, sharing resources, and fusing our various skills, we’ve been able to create opportunities and achieve things we couldn’t have done alone. Our first official event recently showcasing an Asian American story through a music video truly made us realize the support and collaborative effort that we as a community want to pour into. With support from various vendors and individuals, our event garnered over 300 people and universal encouragement for future events.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Balancing full-time jobs with our creative pursuits is no easy feat, but it’s a commitment we’ve made to our community and our craft. Forming this collective was a leap of faith—a risk that brought together diverse perspectives and styles. Yet, it’s precisely these risks that have led to our most rewarding experiences and innovative work.
As Asian Americans in the creative field, we’ve often faced challenges of being overlooked or pigeonholed. But these challenges have only strengthened our resolve to create art that not only represents our identities but also empowers our community to share their unique stories. We’re driven by a passion to defy norms, push boundaries, and spread positivity within and beyond our community.
We hope to be remembered as trailblazers who open doors for Asian American creatives and sparked a movement of cultural pride and artistic fearlessness. Our vision is to leave behind a legacy of a more diverse, inclusive, and vibrant creative landscape, where artists uplift and inspire one another, ensuring a continuous flow of support across generations.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to shoutout every artist who think themselves to be “under-qualified” or “small”. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us and making strides to create your own unique voice.
