Hi Su Bin, what do you attribute your success to?
As the owner / founder of New Stem Medspa, success has never been easy for me, but it’s always been fun. So even if you’re rocking it in your life right now, it’s crucial to stay updated on new ways to improve. Just because you’ve had success in the past doesn’t mean it’ll guarantee your future wins, especially in this ever-changing world we’re navigating after the pandemic. This is a perfect time to rethink old ideas and redefine what “SUCCESS” really means.
So, what’s success all about? The dictionary says it’s about achieving an aim or purpose. But is it just about hitting goals? Our goals evolve, and if they do, does that mean we’re not successful anymore? Sometimes goals are met, changed, or even disrupted. Success is super personal—what it means to you might be different from what it means to someone else.
But no matter what success looks like for you, there are three key ingredients that seem to be crucial: Purpose, Growth, and Courage.

Purpose

Without a clear sense of purpose, it’s tough to know where you’re headed. You need to understand what you want and why you’re chasing it. Many people miss out on success because they don’t have a solid goal. Focus on the destination and let the details of how you’ll get there come later. Ask yourself: What do you want to achieve? What impact do you want to make? And most importantly, why is it important to you? Balance your passion with other aspects of life for a well-rounded approach.

Growth

A growth mindset is your secret weapon for overcoming obstacles. The key here is action—without it, dreams stay dreams. Acting might lead to failure, but not acting guarantees it. If you stumble, learn from it and keep moving forward. Failure isn’t the end; it’s part of the journey. Adjust your approach, enjoy the process, and stay open to change. Embrace learning from your mistakes as you go.

Courage

In a world full of uncertainty, courage is essential. Every successful person has faced risks and challenges. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back; believing in yourself is crucial. Many people want success but aren’t ready to take risks. To truly succeed, you need to embrace uncertainty and adapt as needed. The journey might feel lonely, but remember you’re not alone. Seek help when you need it and learn from others who’ve walked the path.

To me, success is about progressively realizing a worthy idea, going from one failure to another without losing enthusiasm. It’s about achieving your goals and staying positive throughout the process. If you have a clear goal, a growth mindset, and the courage to push through, success is within your reach.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My mantra is “If you are looking to be well cared for and love your look, we are the place for you.” My clients have flocked, with some flying in from around the world, drawn by my reputation for creating a natural look as she uses FDA approved toxins, fillers, and threads to slow the aging process. I’ve seen people who look overfilled and artificial, and I make sure those are not my patients. My patients have subtle, gentle enhancement and I do not stop until they are happy. Not just satisfied. Happy.
I currently teach physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners my techniques, as my med spa grows by word of mouth. I aim to extend my brand “from LA to Korea”.
How did I build my business and propel myself to a position where I could reach my influence to other single-chair medical spas? Here are my strategies:

Mastering what you love. Before starting New Stem Medspa, I spent many years as a nurse and nurse practitioner training with the best in Beverly Hills, Seoul, Korea, and Tokyo, Japan. I’m an avid lifelong learner and even though I’m now a trainer myself, I continue to learn from the best so I can be the best. I’m devoted to this career because it’s my personal passion and I would do it for free. That’s how I know I’m committed to this profession. I can’t see myself doing anything else. I can see the results almost instantly, and I get an immediate reaction and joy from my clients when they get that happy look of amazement of their new face.

Spreading the news. Knowing that I loved this profession, it was easy to tell others of the immediate benefits and instantaneous results of a great practitioner. Mostly my clients didn’t care about my medical experience as much as they want to see results. What interested my clients more were their genuine passion to sustain their youth and to look healthier. Today, we are all living longer and should have a better quality of life. This includes feeling more confident about how our appearance is to the outside world and my clients understand that.
Know your worth. I am determined to make my business work, and to help my business grow I connect with other women and men in various networks and functions. Simply talking to people, I know who is serious about their appearance and who isn’t. I’ve adopted an approach similar to high-end customer service brands such as Mercedes, Four Seasons, and Chanel, but with the friendliness of a local business owner. Over the years, I’ve become so proficient in the techniques that I travel across the country training physicians and nurses in the techniques I use. I’ve immersed myself so much in the industry that I’m familiar with all the latest products and techniques. My fellow medical professionals agree with my mantra: “Safety first, but beauty always.”

Stay Young. Although the work I do helps people look younger, my ultimate goal is to help them enjoy their lives more. I worked with women with severe cystic acne scars and after deep painless procedures, their life is suddenly changed for the better. I show my results on social networks and my 16-years-old son and 14-years-old daughter keep my up to date with the new trends and media posts. Staying young for me means surrounding myself with my young kids and my 4-year-old son forces me to stay energetic and full of love. Beauty may be only skin deep, but for everyone, looking their best makes a life changing difference, and I find it rewarding to be an instrument to everyone’s beauty.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are possibly more things to do in the City of Pasadena than almost any other parts of Los Angeles, whether you’re looking to hike the northern trails of Eaton Canyon, a carefree walk along the local parks and gardens or visiting museums like the famous Gamble House, Southern California Children’s Museum, Norton Simon Museum, and USC Asian History Museum. Old Town Pasadena is most people’s main destination thanks to its highly walkable cluster of upscale stores in maintained architecturally older rehabbed buildings, and noteworthy restaurants like Mi Piace. The Pasadena Playhouse anchors the Playhouse District, and nearby is the newly remodeled movie theater Landmark Theater. But if you only do one thing, then visit the Huntington Library.
