We had the good fortune of connecting with Sung Yoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sung, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was always an observant child, naturally drawn to reimagining and redesigning the world around me. Creativity felt like an innate way to shape how we feel and think within any environment so pursuing a creative career was simply an extension of who I was. I spent the majority of my childhood immersed in extracurricular art programs and competitions, constantly exploring new ways to build, create, and transform.

I’ve always sought out varied experiences and environments, consciously willing to take risks, embrace new places, and learn from each encounter. Over time, these experiences, along with the profound impact of grief, shaped a clear intent: to design environments that support well-being and energy — spaces that are as functional as they are transformative. Our environments don’t just shape us; they can be purposefully designed to transform us.

This journey has been an eclectic blend of creativity, functionality, and a dedication to purposeful design. Life offers new challenges and sources of inspiration, and I’m fortunate to channel these skills into service — to solve problems and elevate quality of life in meaningful ways.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think there’s a unique strength in my diverse interests and my dedication to continuous curiosity and service. I’m committed to creating things that truly support well-being through intentional design. My approach blends essentialist principles with philosophies like Feng Shui and Pungsu Jiri. Meaningful design goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about creating environments that elevate quality of life through intentional alignment.

A key lesson is that anything I dedicate my time and energy to must be in service of improvement and purpose. Whether designing spaces or fostering meaningful connections, I’m committed to creating experiences, moments, and environments that enrich quality of life. Our time is limited, and it deserves to be spent on bringing real value.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
4:30 AM – Begin the day with a morning meditation in the fresh air
5:30 AM – Strength training workout
7:00 AM – Shower, journal, and discuss all our options for the day
9:00 AM – Coffee at Farmshop
11:00 AM – Museum visit and lunch in Culver City or Echo Park, with a quick stop to pick up light snacks for later
1:30 PM – Head to Malibu for a light hike, beach time, reading, and meditation
4:30 PM – Contrast therapy session at a studio
5:30 PM – Pick up groceries
6:30 PM – Host a few friends for a homemade dinner
8:30 PM – Unwind with music and conversation into the evening

For other days, the itinerary would include a few nights in Ojai or Big Sur, with stops at farmers markets and flea markets along the way. Mornings would stay active with hot yoga, Muay Thai and tennis, and we’d explore a variety of cafes throughout the trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
