We had the good fortune of connecting with Suzanna Griffith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Suzanna, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
‘Music has charms to soothe the savage breast’ from The Mourning Bride, a poem by William Congreve, 1697 I require music and singing in my life like air. It’s power, love, beauty. As a vocal coach, I take on many roles – a therapist, friend, confidante. I work with the “whole person” and dig into their dreams and what singing and music mean to them. Music has been used for healing for centuries. I believe that anyone can be moved by music, whether it’s a concerto or a Broadway musical.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a singing coach, but I also work with artists who need to be developed, perhaps getting signed with a label or building their own brand. We identify their sound and look and strategize. I’m the proudest of producing and starring in charity benefits for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, specifically a non-profit called HARK https://healingartsreachingkids.org/ brings art therapy to CHLA. I got where I am professional because I built a great team. A Webdesigner, social media pro, a network of other teachers, memberships in SAG-AFTRA, and the National Association of Singing Teachers (NATS). It was relatively easy as I have a strong network and received many clients through referrals at first. The lesson I’ve learned is that anyone can sing. While I teach all types of singing, I specialize in Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM). Not every singer has the opportunity to study CCM as most music programs focus on classical. Singing is not just for fame but for life. There are always opportunities. Therefore with me, you will get your best voice for life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, I’d take them to The Grove, LACMA, the TarPits. For sure, the beach – Venice, and Malibu! There are so many great dining choices in Los Angeles! My favorite Italian restaurant is Terroni. I also love vegetarian and vegan food, and there are endless choices for vegetarians, Cross Roads Cafe, Craig’s, Toca Madera on Third Street are all amazing restaurants. We’d hang out at my place have some delicious food and a glass of wine on my patio. I’d love to take a two day trip to Big Bear, Santa Barbara, San Diego to show them how awesome California is with the beach and the mountains so close. We would see the Hollywood sign, celebrity houses, do a hop on hop off tour. Finally, we’d have to go to Griffith Observatory to see the stars! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Actually, I have two first is Elisabeth Howard, the creator of The Vocal Power Method, and my teaching mentor. Also, Andrea Quinn, my life coach. They both encouraged me to start my own business, sing professionally again and believe in myself that all things are possible. https://andreaquinncoaching.com/ https://www.vocalpoweracademy.com/
