We had the good fortune of connecting with Syama Meagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Syama, how does your business help the community of world?
As the CEO and Co-Founder of Rendall Co., I’m so excited to announce that we’ve donated over 40,000 face masks to those in need across the country. Our masks are protecting the most vulnerable at risk for COVID-19, ranging from the Navajo Nation to the community centers in Bushwick. This initiative is fundamental to the heart of the business, and we will continue to support those in need. Through my voice as the CEO and Founder of Scaling Retail, I’ve pushed forward narratives around diversity and inclusion in the workspace. Fashion has had a long history of exploitation and oppression and its time to address it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a creative in business, a self-proclaimed business hacker who believes that business creation is highly creative. The ability to orchestrate a project, team, create profitable businesses, is truly an art mixed with science. My approach is cross-disciplinary, looking across industries and ways of thinking to help me make decisions and think out of the box. I’ve learned the best thing I can do is ask questions, the right questions. I’ve learned how to watch my reactivity. As a CEO and leader, I have to be responsible for a lot of big decisions. Knowing that I’m doing the best I can with the right people around me helps me navigate outcomes, both positive and negative.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ideal Day: Start off the day at Homestate in Los Feliz for amazing tacos and chocolate chip cookies. Then, swinging by Lou’s wine shop for this amazing orange wine that we’d take to go as we hit the road to Point Mugu, for an amazing hike with views. On the hike taking a pause to eat veggie sandwiches from All-Time. On the way back, swing by Hotel Bel-Air for cocktails and smelling the gardenias, then home to shower and get ready for dinner at Ostrich Farm.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big props to Lauren Kane, an executive coach who has helped me navigate tricky waters. My partner Deirdra Jones, someone who has been a continuous source of learning for me, and Carissa Begonia, a true cultural leader who inspires me to reach for bigger impact.
