We had the good fortune of connecting with Syd Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Syd, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been creative. It’s such an amazing outlet. I’ve been making music since I was a child and I couldn’t see life without it. Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of taking on multiple roles as an independent artist, from stylist and creative director to writer, producer, and designer. While the work is challenging, the sense of artistic freedom is unmatched. Creativity is such a gift, and I’m deeply grateful to be able to pursue it as my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m so proud of what I accomplished over the summer. I left the band I was in since I was a kid and decided to write an album as a solo artist. I locked myself away for 3 months and wrote a really beautiful body of work. Being able to say that I produced and wrote every song myself is such an insane concept to me. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it was so liberating and transformative. I used to make demos from home, but we would always outsource a producer to re-do the track. I never thought I was good enough or knew what I was doing. Leaving my band was the push I needed to prove to myself that I could be a producer too. Being able to do it all yourself is so valuable. If there’s any lesson I learned, it’s that no matter what, I can always count on myself. I had to learn so much to get to where I am, and I’m still learning every day. I’m teaching myself to be my own publicist, marketer, writer, producer, stylist, editor, and so much more. It’s so important to be informed on all of the roles that go into the making of an artist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I could make a huge list of restaurants, but I’ll just name a few for now. My favorite ones in Silverlake are Seco and Santo. The food and wine is amazing and the vibes are immaculate. I’m vegan, so we’d have to hit up Crossroads and Monty’s Good Burger at some point too. During the day we’d go to Larchmont for a matcha and walk around the farmer’s market. At night we’d go to dinner and go dancing. I really love going out in Silverlake so we’d hop around to a few different places. Seco, Bar Stella, Tenants, and The Friend are all really fun! If there are any good artists playing at The Hollywood Palladium, we’d have to go there because it’s my favorite venue in LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This one has to go to my family. They’ve been so supportive throughout my career as an artist and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them! Band practice in the basement 3 times a week must’ve been a nightmare. Shoutout mom and dad for putting up with it for so long.
