We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabetha Santana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tabetha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
People hear the word risk, and assume so much from just the word. Then what ends up happening is they put this fear in their minds and start to doubt who they are with the abilities they have. When I started my business Tabethaashly as a freelance artist I took every risk possible without the thought of thinking about it. I risked it all for 7 years straight I lost making memories on traveling to vacation, I lost time I could of spent with family and friends, and mostly money I could of spent on self love for myself. Yet all that kept going in my mind was the risk I kept taking over and over again that I wasn’t there yet of accomplishing my dreams in my career. Thinking about what I think about taking a risk the only answer I have for anyone out there is to take it. If you’re too scared to take a risk for what you want to accomplish in life then you’re not ready and there’s some recalibrating you need to do with yourself to see how bad you want it. Is it scary to take a risk ? HELL YEAH cause its your career that you love that you’re putting before anything and anyone. You know what though that risk you’re taking is by far the best feeling you can feel of love and that’s because you are dedicating your soul into what you believe in yourself. I lost it all twice within my 7 years of being a makeup artist and the best thing I always do to get back on my feet always is risking it all to get further then I was before when I lost it. Just know you can never lose anything that was created by you. Every road to success can split in different pathways but it doesn’t mean there’s a end to it. Taking a risk was by far the best thing that has ever happened to me which taught me so much about myself, and my career. If I never took a risk id be stuck at my 9-5 office job working at a dealership. Look at me now working with AList clients, most amazing models, fashion shows, working with top photographers & upcoming artist, most importantly women who admire my work and book me. If it wasn’t for the chances people gave me to work with me and the people to book me I wouldn’t be where I am today if I never took a risk for what is my dna in being a makeup artist.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that sets me apart from other makeup artist is who I am. Im not afraid to showcase what I bring to the table. Have a conversation with me and you will truly feel how passionate I am when it comes to my shit. My career and my kit are like my first born child and a momma don’t play when it comes to her kid that’s for sure. Ive learned many many many lessons through my career and til this day I’m still learning more about not just being a artist but what it takes to handle a business and keep it running the right and most professional way possible. im always open to asking questions when I see other artist teaching something I probably didn’t know and that’s by far my favorite part ill always be the student wanting to strive on and on still regardless if I am a business women. Something I would like the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is that I never gave up. I always prayed, held on to having faith while talking to god manifesting it. I made sure I never lost faith even when times became hard for me.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There will always be this one person who I will dedicate my career to. Thanks to her she believed in me and taught me the proper way to believe in myself the way that I should. Thank you Nini for pushing me to my full potential.
