We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabitha Kit and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tabitha, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I do not agree with those that say to have a backup plan in case it doesn’t work out.

I believe that having a backup plan in case of business failure can hinder your motivation and drive. It can subconsciously create a sense of complacency, causing you to not put in the same level of effort as you would if success were your only option. From the very beginning of starting my company, I was fully committed to making it my only focus. Failure was not an option for me because I knew deep down that this was what I truly wanted to do. This dedication played a significant role in the success of my business.

For those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more? Have there been any challenges as a business owner?
Kit International Talent LLC was established in 2017 as a fully licensed agency in California, specializing in commercial and theatrical representation. In 2021, KIT expanded its operations to the US Southern Region, with an emphasis on the Atlanta market.

Although the concept for my business wasn’t unique, as the entertainment industry is already filled with exceptional talent agencies, my motivation behind starting my company/agency was centered around what I could bring to the table and how I could be the best agent for my clients. I believe it is crucial to identify how your business can stand out and provide value to others.

Rather than prioritizing quantity, I choose to maintain a smaller roster of clients. This allows me to devote more personalized attention to each artist and the roles they fit, creating more opportunities for their success.

I am very proud of the growth and achievements we have attained in such a short span of time. However, starting a business is always a challenging journey that requires continuous learning and dedication. There will be a lot of people who doubt your decisions when starting a company.

One of the most challenging lessons I’ve learned is that not everyone will comprehend why I decided to be self-employed or the amount of time I need to dedicate to it.
I’ve noticed that my clients often face the same issue, where people fail to understand their commitment to acting. Especially when they miss important life/personal events due to work commitments.

Despite building a successful six-figure business, some people mistakenly assume that being self-employed means I don’t have a “real” job. As a result, my social circle has gradually shrunk, and I find it important to surround yourself with people to understand what you do.
I am grateful for the supportive people that are in my life today. We uplift each other and provide the encouragement we all need to succeed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
California is such a beautiful state with so much to offer, but I admit that I don’t have a lot of free time so I haven’t done much exploring lately. I would probably need recommendations myself for a full week of entertainment!

I will always suggest a day for the beach and a day for an amusement park. Though I don’t drink, I do think that the sunset at Ballast Point Brewing in Long Beach is a must-see!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know this is a broad answer, but I would like to give a shoutout to all the amazing artists that I work with. I am elated you are part of the Kit International Talent family. Thank you for trusting me and letting me to be on this journey with you. Thank you to the managers that continue to send their clients over to me and to the production companies that believe in our artists.

It keeps me inspired that the harder I work, my occupation continues to benefit all of you.
Whenever an artist within our agency lands a project, they get to fulfill their passion for entertaining others. Whether it’s their first or hundredth booking, the shared experience of witnessing their success is always exciting.
