We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabitha Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tabitha, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Until you hear “No,” you haven’t been turned down.” ― Reid Hoffman
This quote has been the mantra for me for the past few years. For me this gives us all permission to be bold in everything we do – because the worst that will happen is someone says “No.” Getting “No” as a response is better than not asking in the first place! I feel we grow up with the fear of rejection, fear of disappointment, fear of everything that we think will stand in our way from achieving our goals, when we actually are the only ones standing in our way. I love the idea of just asking, taking in the response and moving on accordingly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my career in this industry working in casting at an agency in LA. It was there that I developed industry knowledge and began understanding how everything works. It wasn’t until 2020 when Covid-19 hit that I moved over to work at Minelli (which was then called M Model Management). I had a really great relationship with the owner Maria Minelli from working in casting; so when she was ready to rebrand the agency, partnering together was a no brainer. We took what I knew from casting, our own interests, and her expertise as a tenured agent to develop Minelli in to what it is today – a family of models, influencers and groups that is a genuine representation of the now. Moving to model agency/management side was not easy as I had no real experience as an agent at the time. But I just went for it! It was challenging to try to build a new, rebranded business in the height of a global pandemic, but it ended up being perfect timing. Our brand vision is to discover beauty in the unusual and represent people that are multidimensional and diverse. Everyone was in this point of self discovery during the pandemic and we wanted to highlight that discover at the agency by bringing on artists, skaters, plant enthusiasts, etc. all who had their own unique vibe and a thirst to collaborate with brands.
This by no means has been an easy journey. We have had extremely long days with a never-ending to do list, and are STILL working to organize some backend processes. But that is what building a career is all about for me – get in there, get your hands dirty, figure it out, and you will succeed.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite Morning Routine: cheesy/basic but everyone does it, Blue Bottle (New Orleans Style cold brew with oat milk) and Runyon. It’s a classic LA morning
Day Time: Always down for a museum moment at the Getty, Huntington Library or even at Griffith Observatory. We also have two dogs so we love just walking them around or taking them to a dog park – great people watching there as well
Dinner and Drinks: Bacari on W 3rd, 90 minute open bar and small plates, Sangria and their lamb eggplant dish all night! Another favorite is Osteria Mozza. I am obsessed with Nancy Silverton and you can never go wrong by going there
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister, Treanna – without her I wouldn’t be in this career. She introduced me to the industry and has been a HUGE support system along the way. Also would love to give a shout out to the Minelli Family – the team Maria, Jane and Isabella, and all the models and influencers we’ve worked with. Without you, the agency would not be seeing the success it is! We are dedicated, hard workers and I am so excited to be apart of our continued growth.
