We had the good fortune of connecting with Takai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Takai, what do you want your legacy to be?
As an artist, leading a life of creativity is one that is very personal. I create for my own wellbeing, but I also create for the wellbeing of others. I enjoy being able to positively impact people with a little piece of myself, that they then can take and use for themselves. I strive to lead a life of love and service to others because I believe I have everything I need to live a happy life. I want to be remembered for my service to others by way of storytelling that allows people to change their human behaviors toward one another. I strongly believe we all need to be more loving toward one another to create a better world for all of life. My legacy will be creating a positive shift in our human behavior through the powerful medium of storytelling. I am at the beginning of my journey, and look forward to all the experiences that will allow me to live my life in purpose. When it is all said and done, I want people to remember me for the stories that I am telling and the lives that they will change.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been dedicated to the art of filmmaking since my freshman year in high school. Since then, my journey has evolved and grown into my passion for writing & storytelling. I believe storytelling is a powerful tool that can be used to create empathy for other human beings.

I strive to tell stories that allow an audience to relate to another human being different from themselves. When we have an understanding of each other, when we see ourselves in each other, people are less likely to harm someone they see as themselves. I am calling this recognition of ourselves in others ‘Takai’.

Takai is the empathetic discovery of ourselves in others and the delight in the recognition.
I am a Writer/Director who strives to exploit the power of storytelling to inspire human connection in order to extinguish hate and ignite LOVE.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im not the kind of person that goes out much, but when I do I enjoy being able to connect with nature. So I would probably take my best friend to the beach on a nice warm day to experience the beautiful sunset.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Richard Stevenson. I call him Rich, he has been an impactful person during my journey here in Los Angeles. As a fellow filmmaker and just an overall good person, Rich has been there for me in ways that have allowed me to thrive as an artist and filmmaker. Wether it be access to resources, or offering his time, Rich is a person that deserves great credit in my story of becoming. Rich always looks out for me and also extends his love to not only me, but everyone in his life. I consider Rich a mentor and am very thankful for his guidance.
