We had the good fortune of connecting with Tala Abo Dabousa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tala, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I was a successful journalist/ TV and radio news presenter in my country Syria, I had to risk everything by Leaving all of that behind and start my new life all again from scratch by coming to country that has totally different Life style, different language, different cultures “Canada” taking the risk to come to country that i don’t know anyone except my sister. I had to start my new life by first studying again by learning the English language as academic required, having new friends, working here and their “surviving jobs” with minimum dollars to pay my bills, then I started thinking about my future here, because I know Going back to my country would not happen in the near future. I started contacting radio and tv stations. Looking for an opportunity or small hope to make me work again in a career that I worked so hard to be successful in (my passion).
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I am having a full time job of being a new mom, the only work in my career that I do at this time is an online freelance, which is a professional Voice Over Artist. In both Arabic and English Language. Everything related to Radio Stations, Documentary, Narrations and voice acting Dubbing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First We will drive around the city, as you know wherever you drive you can see very interesting sometimes epic places like lakeshores, parks, farms, Museums. The wonderful thing in Canada that every special days they decorate the cities and markets even the houses based on that occasion, like Canada day, Halloween, Christmas time, New Year. Related to food all food is yummy, it depends to the mood, it could be Asian, Italian, Middle-Eastre. You can imagine the advantages of diversity in Canada specially the food and restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Starting my journey from Mohawk college where I studied English Academic Preparation and then Marketing. I got to know that there is a radio station in the college I still remember what I felt at that time I said to my self here is a sign for getting my career back And then it happened! I would like to thank The Hawk Radio station 101.5 especially manager, Les Palango who believed in my experience as news and radio presenter. By saying yes to me and gave an opportunity to join the radio station team and doing every Sunday for 1 hour presenting my personal show (Tala’s Show) that talks about latest news and playing mix songs from both Arabic and English even spanish songs. Having this opportunity Made me able to practice my back-home experience here in Canada for 4 years. Besides, I would like to thank my sister
