We had the good fortune of connecting with Talayeh Banan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Talayeh, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
After many years devoted to working the corporate life for others, deciding to work for myself was definitely a huge leap of faith towards a successful new career path. However, the single most important decision that I made that contributed to my current success was to practice perseverance.
Coming from my past industry in which I knew everyone because I was seasoned in experience to coming to the wedding industry as a newbie was definitely a challenge. It wasn’t always easy. As a matter of fact, being a creative introvert, it was sometimes nerve-racking! Letting go of fear and self doubt is undeniably a challenging aspect of life that we all encounter, whether we want to admit it or not. The restrictions we face in life are often self-imposed and sometimes even unnoticeable. However, with every given opportunity, I persevered. Not allowing myself to think about ‘what if’, but moving forward just accepting each new adventure. I found that every networking event led me to meet someone new that propelled me to an unexpected opportunity. Every event I planned, challenging or easy, gave me experience that I would soak in so much knowledge from.
After time, I thrived on my accomplishments with pride because I knew it was so out of my comfort zone. It was definitely perseverance that helped me break walls around me and find the comfort and expertise that I never even knew I had as a designer & planner. Allowing myself to experience this aspect of self reinvention is what I am beyond grateful for and encourages me to succeed everyday.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having lived most my life in coastal California, my go to for a fun day out would start with the beach! From Newport to Malibu, the coastal views are breathtaking. Taking in the beautiful, fresh beach air for a walk or bike ride would set the tone for the trip. Next stop, I would enjoy some drinks and lunch over at one of our favorite venues in Malibu, Calamigos Ranch! It has a relaxed and natural vibe surrounded by lush green trees that are adorned with hanging chandeliers. I would then include a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Such an inspiring museum for creatives to soak in artistic beauty. I wouldn’t forget to take some photos for Insta content at the iconic entrance of lights. Lastly, I would travel to Sunset Blvd for an array of choices for dinner and after party nightlife! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my mother who has always had a love for design and creativity. Her detail to perfection and hard working ethic is everything I aspire to be and keeps me encouraged to continue on this path with renewed energy to succeed.
