Meet Tamieka Briscoe | Screenwriter & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamieka Briscoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamieka, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Betting on myself, taking a chance, shooting my shot, going hard or going home…though I’m not much of a gambler or athlete, these terms describe how I approach goals. Taking risks has been a huge part of my success in life, love and career. Any success I’ve achieved, is a result of taking a leap of faith.
In this season of my life, my favorite two words are: “Let’s go!” More than just a phrase, when I use those words with those in my circle, it’s an invitation to those around me to also bet on themselves, take chances, shoot their shot, and to go hard or go home.
I have yet to read a success story about someone who remained in their comfort zone and accomplished greatness. My goals are lofty, so risks come along with the territory. Faith and proper planning are my best defense against risk, so there are few things that scare me. Though even when I am scared, if the goal is important enough, I will go for it while afraid. Let’s go!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am extremely blessed and excited to be able to tell stories from my unique perspective as a black woman, a single mother and entrepreneur who started from scratch in Los Angeles with no connections and a support system that exists 3,000 miles across the country. It has not been an easy journey, and there has not been a dull moment. I am happy to set an example to what is possible, even when you get a later start, even when you have children. You can still achieve your goals and dreams, you just have to push harder.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend comes to town, I have to take her to eat at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. We have to hit Santa Monica Pier and Pink’s Hot Dogs. We’d have Sushi at 2 Die 4 Sushi in Northridge where I would tell her she has to try the shrimp tempura. We’d do the tourist stuff like the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Hollywood Sign. I would also take her to the Hollywood Bowl if there is a cool event going on, especially since we can bring our own wine. We’d go to Malibu Beach and hiking at Runyon Canyon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to each and every supporter of my recent crowdfunding campaign. To witness over 400 people coming together to support a project that I created, was like nothing I’ve ever experienced. At a time where we all value independence, it is great to be part of such a dynamic community. I’m so grateful!
