We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammi Yee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammi, what do you attribute your success to?
My family. My grandparents on my father’s side realized there would be a lot more opportunities in the US. They told me about how they barely escaped the country during the Chinese Civil War. A lot of people were trying to flee and they initially were going to turn away my grandmother and her kids from joining my grandfather in the US. Through her perseverance, she was able to find a way to safely bring her family over to the United States.

I think about the sacrifices my family made (as well as the kindness of those they met in that journey) and it pushes me to make the most of my life. To not give up, to stay focused on your dream, and anything is attainable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I had always assumed (erroneously) that people who were successful in acting were ones that started really young, like child or teen actors. I remember having a dream one night where I woke up and realized that thinking was all wrong. Our perspective on things create our reality.

I enrolled in classes and while I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to “start from scratch” it was much, much tougher than I ever realized. You have to learn not just how to act but also the other things that come with it, the blocking, the angles, the inflection of your voice, etc. But I also understood that it is a marathon, not a sprint. I truly believe that sticking to something long-term is what creates success – hanging in there and persevering.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Beverly Hills for the fashion and hotel cocktails at the W. Also at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons where they shot Pretty Woman, the Cut by Wolfgang Puck is amazing for Wagyu!

Koreatown for spatime and then some yummy KBBQ (Hae Jang Chon is a good one)!

Outdoor shopping at The Grove and it’s friendly for kids and dogs. Catch a movie and and we’d make sure to check out the amazing Farmers Market.

Sunset Drive to explore and reminisce about Hollywood life that drives all the way to Westwood/UCLA. Then over to Brentwood where I always go for Sweet Rose Creamery ice cream. Then down to Santa Monica for nightlife –  bars at beach properties/hotels and the pier.

Downtown jewelry district to get something nice for that special someone and rooftop bars at night. Standard, Perch, and Intercontinental Hotel.

A walk down Larchmont Village and grabbing some sandwiches. They have a great Farmers Market on Sundays. They have another new favorite ice cream – Jeni ice cream!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Friends and family. They’ve been supportive – and I really appreciate that.
