We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Cee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanisha, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success is achieving the goals you’ve set for yourself regardless of how big or small they may seem.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bianmar Foods sells specialty beverages from Central America and the Caribbean using simple ingredients you can pronounce. We have three main flavors, one seasonal, and many more flavors to come. Sorrel (hibiscus & ginger) is our best seller. Panela (unrefined cane sugar with a splash of lemon) which tastes like a cross between lemonade and iced tea. Lenchata™ (a lentil smoothie) which tastes like horchata but is made with lentils instead of rice. This is where the name came from as well LENtils + horCHATA = Lenchata™. Shila Spice™ (a squash smoothie) which is made from kabocha squash is the seasonal flavor that comes out in the fall. Since these specialty beverages are unique, people are a little hesitant to try them, but once they do, they are instantly hooked. The company was started in 2015 after hearing numerous times “have you thought about selling this? If this was in the store I’d buy it”. After some internal debate, and my share of trials and tribulations, I decided to take a leap of faith and start the company. I started doing research online, reading books on the subject, attending webinars, signing up for newsletters from companies that are in the specialty food business, watching shows on food manufacturing and business ownership, and taking as many notes as I could, I had a few setbacks along the way. They are just part of life. All I can do is learn from those setbacks, pick myself back up, and keep going until my goal is achieved. Set new goals, and achieve those too. My purpose is to share with you some of the foods and beverages that I grew up eating and drinking, and consistently provide the same great taste with each mouthful. Drink the Caribbean!™

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start out in Hollywood so they can see the Hollywood sign and the stars from the Walk of Fame. A trip Santa Monica, Venice, or Redondo Beach to walk around, eat, buy souvenirs, ride bikes and just hang out in the sand. One of the theme parks is also a must, Disneyland or Universal Studios are the most popular options. Depending on the time of the year a trip to the mountains to see snow is also a good option. There are so many places to enjoy a good meal, from food trucks to regular restaurants. It would just depend on what they were in the mood for and go from there. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to family, friends, and even strangers. They provide encouraging words, suggestions, constructive criticism, volunteer their time, listen, buy my specialty beverages and recommend them to others. My faith has also played an important role in my life. After researching, planning, and creating some type of road map, at some point I just step out on faith and trust that things will work out for my greater good.
