We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Alexis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business is something that has been a long time coming. For years, energy work (Reiki, Intuitive Healing, Crystals) and Photography had been a huge part of my own healing practice. As I began to explore learning different modalities and incorporating them into my photography sessions, I realized that I also found myself wanting to share what I have learned with others to aid and support them into tapping into their own intuition. It took time, but I had patience and waited for energetic taps to let me know it was time to take the next step. It began slowly first with the Embrace the Light Portrait Sessions (a mix of energy healing and photography) then it moved on to intuitive healing, and this past November, Crystal Sales became a part of my business. Crystals are the ultimate tool to beginning to connect to your intuition, because we often have strong responses (even if it is just….oooooh that is so pretty).

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My healing photography sessions were cultivated from a very real space. Beauty from grief and fear around being seen as a healer. The sessions began as a bridge between the familiar (photography) and the abstract (energy healing). It came very naturally. My greatest challenge was believing that what I was doing was real, that I would be able to create new beautiful experiences time and time again. Patience was the greatest gift in facing that challenge. Patience allowed me to move deeper into my comfort level of being a healer, and that in return nurtured and supported what I was able to create in my portrait sessions. The biggest lessons that I have had to embrace are that you are always exactly where you need to be when you need to be there, continuing to work on yourself allows you to shift and grow your business in new and beautiful ways, and trusting that if you heart is truly in it, the right people will find you. Sometimes the bridges we build to get from point A to point B allow us to go on a whole new journey that no longer involves getting to point B. We are constantly growing and evolving – now more than ever. Embrace the journey, cultivate a love and trust of the unknown, and welcome change.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
After a year of hardly going anywhere, I have to jog my memory a bit! Possibly….Go for a drive in Angeles Crest, eat food from Saladang in Pasadena or Hama Sushi in Little Tokyo, explore Descanso Gardens in the early morning, visit the Norton Simon Museum, walk around Echo Park, spend time in South Pasadena, perhaps travel outside the city to Palm Springs or Desert Hot Springs, find an outdoor Sound Bath, go to the beach, walk around Abbot Kinney. There are so many wonderful and varied things to do in and around the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shout out is dedicated to every single one of my clients for their love, support, and nurturing of what I am creating. It makes everything a million times easier when you have kind, thoughtful, and all around lovely clients. It is also dedicated to all the wonderful healers that I have crossed paths with…the ones that nurtured and held space for me…Tony, Jamie, Shanna, and Liz. I am deeply grateful to you all for your insight and for helping me see what was just beyond my immediate world to realize that were even greater experiences and ways of viewing the world just past my sight.
