We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarius Wrld and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tarius, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
As an independent artist having a work life balance is very important. Most of us artist have real life living expenses while also having to manage staying creative during our free time. As for myself, I work a regular day job and balance my studio time mainly during the night or my days off. Having the energy isn’t easy by any means, though as a creative, when you know your art is an essential part of you; it’s seen as more than a work obligation. I started creating music in 2016 and being unsigned independently you, the artist, are funding your entire career. I’ve personally worked many jobs while finding the time to create and focus on new strategies like marketing, visuals, creating fanbases, & etc. Studying the highs and the lows of the industry and taking financial risk often occur but I feel when the art is worth it you find the time and resources.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a R&B singer songwriter born & raised in the Bay Area, CA. I’ve always had a deep passion for music and the entertainment industry. Since I was a child I grew up in the church singing in the choir developing my voice young. Growing up in the Bay Area was such a creative diverse environment that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I gained so much inspiration from other upcoming artist. In high school I knew I wanted to make this into a career. The journey wasn’t easy but I knew in the long run it would be worth it. I got my first job early in high school so I could buy my music equipment and learn how to self record, write, and engineer my music. I took a summer program class in order to learn music softwares because booking studio time got expensive so I wanted to take things into my own hands. I created my first few bodies of work back then and started to gain online attention which led to an ongrowing fanbase. During the year of 2017 I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue music. Today I’m working on new material in my own home studio with well over 80,000+ streams across platforms all independently. Along this journey of being an artist and living in Los Angeles I’ve experienced many ups and downs but always remained grounded and kept music as my main priority and focus. My main mission in music is to connect to my audience. I want my music to always have a personal connection to the listener either that being my voice, lyrics, or visual impact. I want people to grow with me and my music and inspire those to chase their dreams and goals and know they are capable. Currently I’m working on a new project releasing this Fall called “Bad Day, again.” I believe this is my most personal music yet all written from life’s perspective and the way I’ve been navigating situations. There’s a ton of music I have in the vault and I’m excited to continue this growing journey in music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The LA environment is amazing. One of the reasons I live in LA is the fast pace city life. The beach is always the best getaway making a regular day feel like a vacation any day of the week; Santa Monica, Malibu, & Venice Beach are my favorites. Los Angeles has such a wide variety of food options! There’s definitely food chain restaurants but the most authentic food comes from independent owners in my opinion. In every city there’s a hole in the wall restaurant I can get a great hearty bite! Being a bisexual male in Los Angeles is also comforting because the people are welcoming here. In West Hollywood a late night out is always fun because the whole block is alive. There’s countless museums, parks, and creative events to attend or visit so it’s an endless amount of fun out here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family is something very important to me and I can say I wouldn’t have been here without mine. I’ve had unconditional support since I was young chasing my aspirations in music. My family gave me guidance growing up and instill hard work ethic which is very important in the entertainment industry. They’ve allowed me to stay grounded during times of confusing. I remember early days when I first begin music production my family supported my artist development with that being through advice, financial support, or whatever might be my family deserves the world for the love I’ve received.
