Meet Tata Chen | Producer, Writer, Media-realted innovation enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tata Chen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tata, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I gave my commitment to the vision of creating something that would stand the test of time and meanwhile support storytellers. This “something” might be a film, a product, or a platform and it was rooted in my mind from the beginning of the journey where I work for multi-media formats.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The more personal focus of my own work is on the Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Horror genres. I acquired the right to a fantasy novel for TV adaptation for my previous company in China, which I lost track of years ago. Then I wrote the script for a mobile game, which is a fantasy story. The game was widely released in 2021. Since 2021, I’ve worked on some shorts, features, and a game in such genres.
One of the difficulties that’s not very obvious is that you can’t easily get the chance to work on such genres. Actually, only a small group of professionals in the industry have the experience of working on such genres, which made the experiences more uniquely precious. I got the luck to work with some of them and get more exposure for my future work that’s situated in Asian culture.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place in LA is I Coffee Shop in Ktown. It’s a very nice coffee shop where there’s enough space between seats and seats. The menu is with a great coffee taste. And it’s closed at 9:00 pm, which is my favorite. So you know if there’s a reason for me to delay my writing or any other work due to the perfectionism inside me, I will visit that coffee shop and sit down in there for a whole day. And I won’t have any excuse to delay anymore.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve befriended many people from different industries and all of them have very impressive insights about the media industry, or precisely the film industry. Some of them are game makers or engineers and here I’d like to discuss more about the Asian female filmmakers. We’ve supported each other along each other’s career paths and will continue contributing to the film industry with a unique voice.
