We had the good fortune of connecting with Tate Canyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tate, what matters most to you?
As an artist, a principle that matters most to me is believing in your f*cking work man. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve met somebody, who mentions they make music and are obviously excited about it because their bum ass brought it up but as soon as I ask to play a song, they mention its ass, or its a demo, or they don’t know yet. It’s corny bruh. Please. Please believe in your art. At once point, I thought I was a douche for how proud I was of my art but I’ve come to learn that there’s absolutely no problem with being proud of your work. Saying your artwork is ass before you show somebody is so half-assed. It means you’re scared of what others think and if you’re thinking like that, you’re already wrong. Nobody should dictate what you think is cool or not cool. Sure, you can be inspired by people but I really f’ck with when people get off about sh*t they f*ck with, in detail. pause. but forreal, its very important and I think more people should be proud of their work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most of my photography, writing, and video work is showcased in my magazine, CRISIS. While my clothing, home accessories, events, and more projects are showcased from my creative hub, 1988 California Studios. I’m always trying to stay busy. I do seasonal clothing drops and full 120-page magazines every once in a while. I’ve been working with a camera and in the clothing business since I was 14. I was the kid selling crewnecks out of his backpack in middle school. It’s been a slow grind but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I want people to know that there is always a way. If you can’t find production, do it yourself. You can do everything through the internet.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I just recently learned what ‘Guides’ were in ‘Apple Maps’ and started saving every place I f*ck with so I never forget. If a friend visits for more than a week, I’d usually take them out of the city and go to the bay but if we only had a few days to see a few LA spots I’d first go to the Creme Cafe on Melrose. That place is so f*ckin good bruh. Crepes, smoothies, lemonade, & bruhhhh! It’s so good! I don’t really f*ck with Melrose like THAT but this place is certified. There’s a photo of SHAQ on the wall and everything. Actually a few photos of SHAQ… Just gotta see it.
