We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Doyle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatiana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were two factors infuencing my desicion to start my own business. First, it was a creative itch, I used to work as a teacher but there was always this need in the back of my mind to get myself into an art field, I was always obsessed with photography and cinematography. The second reason was that I wanted to start something of my own, I wanted to experience creating something from zero, challenge myself and see what I’m made of, create my world and my own rules.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a photographer that explores the imagery of different aspects of the feminine energy. I’m especially drawn to the dark aestetics, a lot of my inspiration comes from vampire themes, horror movies and all things gothic and sensual. My understanding of beauty lies in things we suppress (or taught to suppress as women), in our so called shadows and parts of ourselves we struggle to accept. I’m proud that I always stayed true to myself and although my visual style is not that popular or mainstream I never changed my essence just to conform. It has also not been easy starting my phototgraphy business in a foreign country. I was born in Russia and came to Mexico 7 years ago with practically no money and zero friends or connections, so that definitely has been a big challenge, not only to change my career path but do it in quite testing circumstances. I’ve had a long journey with many ups and downs and I’m still growing and trying to understahnd how to navigate my creative life. One of the main lessons I’ve learned along the way was to never lose faith, the art career is not the easiest but if your heart burns with it you’ll get what you want and it will be worth it. My brand has been built on resilience and I’m extremely proud of myself of overcoming many challenges and I hope my story will inspire someone not to give up their dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Mexico city and I love this city with all my heart, after living here for 7 years I can definitely say I know the place well. So if you came to visit, I’d show you the main and my favourite historical/tourist places, for example El Zocalo and El Centro are full of beautiful architecture and we would go up one of the highest skysrapers there called Torre Latinoamerica, I would take you to the colorful Xochimilco to get a boat ride with music and food, we would go to Chapultepec park to visit the botanical garden and have a picnic there. I would also take you to Coyoacan’s artesanal and food markets. Talking about more local things, we would go to my favourite coffee places near my house, for example Boston Bakery that has the best cakes and muffins, or to Casa Bruna to have delicious sandwiches with salmon. One of my absolute favourite places in Mexico City is Cineteca Nacional, a gem for cinephiles. In Condesa area we would go to park Mexico to watch people dance bachata. And for even more local stuff, I’d take you to El Chopo market which is a very special place for those who like gothic things, or if you’re feeling like having a crazy adventure we could go to Sonora market which has witchcraft and other mystical things. We can also go see the Moon and Sun Pyramids in Teotihuacan which is one hour away from the city. And ofcourse we would have a home made dinner at my place!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my sister Marina who has always been by my side and has supported me in every way possible.
