Meet Tatiana Kharina | AKA Tanuchkiss – Artist & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Kharina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
It is interesting how one discovers the right book at the right time of life. And it is interesting how only one book can transform a person and change a person’s perspectives. This year I discovered books by Ryuu Shinohara. “Manifesting with Alignment” is the one that made a really big impact on me. This is not just another book about the Law of Attraction, which most people know or heard about. It is more than that. The book offers a philosophy for everyday life. I found a logic I was looking for to understand some cause-outcome connections between events in my life. It helped me to see the way I want to go. It challenged me to do the inner work of becoming a more kind and loving person. And, as with any growth-causing book, it led me to other interesting book discoveries.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like I am still at the very beginning of my artistic journey and there will be more lessons to learn as I go. One of the most difficult things for me was finding a way of dealing with my inner critic. I used to be a very self-critical perfectionist. It is extremely hard to grow when you are constantly criticizing your own art. How did I get over it? I wouldn’t say I got totally over it, haha, there is always room to improve. I realized one very important thing: I have to have fun during the creative process. I learned to let myself do whatever I feel like doing on canvases, with unlimited freedom, without judgment. I tell myself that every painting is an experiment and like any experiment, it can go right or wrong. It is important to trust yourself and not be afraid of making a mistake. Growth is not possible without mistakes. Growth is not possible without experimentation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my friend to a Hollywood Bowl – an amazing one-of-a-kind experience. Sip wine while enjoying the best pieces of world classical music in the ambiance of sunset in the Griffith park mountains. Get some great Oaxacan food at family-owned and operated Quiadaiyn Restraunt in Mar Vista (the best Oaxacan food in LA). Go for a fun Karaoke night at Residuals Tavern’s Irish Pub in Studio City. Go for a walk in the Downtown Art District to check murals and visit galleries. Enjoy some sun, surfing and street culture at Venice Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As soon as I joined LA art community I met so many wonderful, kind and talented people. It is true that artists hugely support each other. I would like to give a special shout-out to Duncan Sherwood-Forbes – an artist and a very good friend of mine. He not only creates awesome wire sculptures but also spreads love and incredibly positive energy. His example and art path inspire me. His support and help are always sincere. Thank you, Duncan!
