Meet Taya-Morgan Moore | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taya-Morgan Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taya-Morgan, why did you pursue a creative career?
My end goal is to become an animator. Since I can remember, I’ve always loved visual art. There’s never been a time where I wasn’t surrounding myself with it. Whether it was art I’d created and taped to the walls or posters of others’ art. I also love movies, finding a good underground movie is like winning the lottery. My origin for loving movies was Pixar. The visual design paired with the storytelling is what made me want to become part of the entertainment industry. What better career is there for someone who both loves visual art and good storytelling? By the end of my career, I would like to have fulfilled my dream of being part of the industry whether it be through Pixar or not. Or being part of a team to create new worlds and inspire new visual design. I hope to have contributed in creating something that deeply impacts people like I’ve experienced through film. The ability to both entertain and tell a meaningful story is more important than we think.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From what I’ve heard, I’m good at capturing the emotions and/or expression of the people that I’ve drawn so I’ll say that’s something that sets me apart. I’m currently in college to learn how to animate, and on the side I take commission work. It’s difficult to stay motivated with animation since there’s so much more I need to learn in order to animate professionally. However, this has made me more of a patient person. I’m looking to join an animation internship to overcome that. I hope that my skill in portraying facial expressions helps me to find a home in the animation world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say the beach. The beach is one of my favorite places to go, specifically in Santa Monica. I would first take them to one of the many Perry’s Cafés planted along the beach. There we’d get a smoothie and hang for a while under one of their umbrellas. Then maybe, if it’s not too hot, we’d play volleyball. While we’re out, we might as well go to the promenade. One of the first places I’d take them would be Cardboard City. Inside there’s sculptures made of cardboard and a station for the public to create their own pieces. I really like places that attract people from all over. That way you get a little of everything.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Children’s Clothing Giveaway blesses families in need with things like books, clothes, diapers, toys and shoes. They’ve helped hundreds of families within the community. Before the pandemic, the nonprofit would have bi-annual events and a special Christmas event for the kids every year. During the pandemic, they’ve adapted and have weekend appointments for people to come and shop for what they need. The pandemic hasn’t stopped their care for the community or the effort put into their nonprofit.
