We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Joree Scorse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor Joree, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
You know that saying – “If you can imagine yourself doing anything else besides acting, do it”? I’ve tried. I’ve worked countless day jobs; from bartending to wedding coordination to an assistant marketing position at a really fun company in New York City. I’d get about 2 months into the new endeavor and then the boredom would hit. The shiny new job would lose its luster and I’d be back to daydreaming about the stories I wish I was creating. I never feel as alive as I do when I’m collaborating with other artists, or breathing life into a character or feeling the emphatic energy of a live audience in a dark theatre. Even on my worst days as an actor/producer, even through the frustration, anger, overwhelming exhaustion, I still feel purposeful and invigorated. So, in short, I came to realize I was created to this exactly this. I have to be in touch with my artistic self in order to stay sane. There’s really no other option.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love stimulating people’s minds and challenging their thought processes, especially regarding our current culture. In my film ‘Under The Influencer,’ we delve into the importance of social media, the potential harm it can cause, and the issue of cyberbullying. We bring up a tough topic, pack it into a fun, colorful, sugary dessert for people to enjoy, and then take a turn that really hits the heart – and mind. My favorite part is witnessing people leaving the movie theater or a live show and engaging in conversations about what it meant to them and how it pushed them to think beyond their existing knowledge. Going against the norm and challenging conventions is something that truly inspires me. Let’s just say, I like going against the grain – that’s my Scorpio coming out in my art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Exploring Los Angeles with first time visitors is one of my favorite things to do. If they are flying into the hell-hole that is LAX, I’d tell them to pack their bathing suit in their carry on and immediately take them to Manhattan Beach where we could decompress in the sun and then indulge in cocktails at The Manhattan Beach Post. I’d show them around my wonderful neighborhood of Burbank, getting breakfast burritos at The Corner Cottage, coffee at Commissary and then take a hot hike in Griffith followed by happy hour at Castaway. You can’t miss the Pasadena Flea Market if you hit the right weekend or at least go thrifting at Crossroads on Colorado. When in LA, you have to have sushi so I’d recommend Sugarfish to go Omakase style or we could venture down to, my personal favorite, Irori Sushi in Marina Del Rey. If we have the time and are feeling adventurous, I’d take a day-trip on the AMTRAK up to Santa Barbara for a fun wine-filled day in the Funk Zone!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Artistically, I would not be where I am today without the guidance of Anthony Abeson. He helped me get back in touch with my child-like imagination and helped free me of creative strangulation. In all honesty, he helped me find my own process. So thank you, Anthony; from the bottom of my heart.

Personally and professionally, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the constant support of the love of my life, Logan. The unconditional love, the “yes and” mentality and the countless moves across the country that he’s given me cannot go un-thanked. So thank you, my dear.
