We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Rae Almonte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor Rae, what do you want people to remember about you?
This Barack Obama quote, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change we seek.” — has had a profound effect on how I approach my career, my family, my life overall. I want people to remember me as someone who took action. I want people to remember me as a leader. But most importantly, I want people to remember me as someone who didn’t wait for others to give me permission to be who I was always meant to be.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work meets at the intersection of racial justice and wellness. I feel like all of the work I’ve done from college to today have culminated in me creating this little niche for myself that never really existed before. I took my passion for anti-racism education, my background in fitness and boxing and my experience with connecting to folks and speaking as an actor and created an entire platform. I’m now the Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Rumble, co-founder of an anti-racism program called ACTIV-ISM alongside my friend Kira West, a Reebok Athlete incorporating racial justice into all of my campaigns, and a anti-racism educator.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and can’t imagine myself anywhere else right now! I have to grab an oat milk Shakerato from Blue Bottle and go for a walk on the Williamsburg Waterfront to start the day. Next up, it’s brunch at either Sweetwater on their outdoor patio or Cafe Mogador. Drinks at Midnights or Dolly’s is a must, I always go for a classic daiquiri (rum, lime juice, simple syrup). The ferry is a must-do, with iconic views of the city to take you over to Manhattan. From there I would head to Rubirosa on Mulberry Street for an upscale casual Italian dinner. The night would be complete at the rooftop of the William Vale hotel back in Brooklyn, Westlight.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always have to shoutout my mom in everything I do! My mom, Jasmin Almonte, is absolutely amazing. She saw who I was supposed to become at a very young age and really just let me be myself and always told me it was enough. Thanks to her love and unconditional support I am who I am.
