We had the good fortune of connecting with Teagen Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teagen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew That I wanted to own something and be able to revive 100 percent of my earnings as oppose to 50. We are taught and pushed to be the employee as oppose to the employer. I didn’t want that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started at 24 hour fitness as a sales counselor. I loved working in corporate gym because aside from paying my dues it allowed me to gain the experience and confidence in working with clients. While it may not have lined my pockets it’s gave me priceless experience. After that I worked with equinox and the education there was amazing, once again getting and keeping clients wasn’t the easiest there either. While I waited tables to survive I decided to quit equinox and offer downtown residential buildings the option to have classes on site. That’s when the tide changed! I found a niche and they accepted and in turn those classes provided many referrals which allowed me to build my business and leave corporate gym and waiting tables forever. People don’t realize getting clients is easy keeping them is another story! To be able to look a client in the face and ask for 2000 up front takes courage! It’s courage that’s corporate gyms instilled in me and ensured I knew my worth. The main thing trainers have to understand is you are in customer service SET THE PRECEDENT. Don’t cancel, don’t come in late, look and dress appropriately take yourself serious and the client will as well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend comes we’re going to Santa Monica and enjoying the beach. Then Runyon canyon! After that we’ll hit my favorite restaurant in DTLA joeys and do it all over again. Honorable mention goes to my other favorite restaurant Preaux and proper in Dtla.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate and recognize my father Bill Jones and My best Friend and Mentor Irwin Daniels for their amazing leadership and guidance.
