We had the good fortune of connecting with Tej Kaur Khalsa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tej, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I found a beautiful scroll with a writing by the Dalai Lama, and I gave it to twins at their birth. Today they are about 5 years old, and starting to read. Their parents sent me a recording of them reading it (How Great Is That? Learning to read with the Dalai Lama!) reciting together, “Never Give Up. No Matter What Is Happening, No Matter What is Going on: Never Give Up.” I constantly remind myself that Step by Step, we get better, we progress. When my daughter was 3, we had a kitchen with large tiles. She would put one foot on a tile and say, “Step” next tile, “By” and the third tile, “Step”. For hours she would walk on those tiles, repeating this mantra. She sort of chiseled it into my subconscious. This saying, along with “Never Give Up” helps me as challenges constantly arise. Learning to be in an Elevated Flow — to just watch, listen, assess, and then do — has been a big development for me. We began teaching yoga online with TejTV.yoga — and it’s reaching people from all around the world who are tuning in daily. Step by Step we’ve put this platform together with the help of many dedicated people. I’ve learned how important it is to take our new steps with confidence and faith that we’re being directed and guided — and success becomes a solid space in your psyche.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I get very excited to see people blossom. I believe within every person there is a wise being — ready to be expressed. And I really believe Kundalini Yoga & Meditation magically helps us transform. This practice can awaken a true wisdom, in a joyful and very inspiring way. I began Tej TV because I sincerely believe we all need a daily practice to reconnect to spirit — in fact it is crucial. That’s why I teach every day. So we can all keep growing. We started TejTV.yoga when the shutdown happened. It wasn’t something I ever thought about before — but it was so needed and helps many people. It all kind of blossomed itself, and we have kept going, developing it. We can all awaken to our own Elegance, Excellence & Grace — in our own personal way. Not copying anyone else, but finding your own inner expression that you were born on Earth to express. Find that which opens your personal inspiration and then go, grow and flow that way. Kundalini Yoga and Meditation can help develop this in a real way for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I often take visitors to the Lake Shrine of Parmahansa Yogananda on Sunset near PCH. It’s an incredible piece of landscape with swans and fish and beautiful gardens — right in the middle of a busy city. I like to support their bookstore, and meditate at the different shrines. When I have a special situation I need to put prayers into, I often will go there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had the honor to learn from many students who are constantly taking on life affirming challenges, upgrading their personal diet, meditation / yogic practices, and using the renewed energy to heal themselves as well as others. It’s been very inspiring to watch, and I look at all this like a wave that we are all riding together. People are starting to feel one another, and we DO and can influence one another in a positive way — even just through our deep inner thoughts and projections. I’m very grateful we’re growing together and that I get to be a part of this amazing evolution of consciousness on Earth. One lady wrote a book, “Kundalini Yoga: The Flow of Eternal Power.” Her name is Shakti Parwha Kaur. She is leaving behind her own legacy — something that is sometimes funny, somewhat sarcastic, and easy to read — with tips & tools to help us survive and keep growing. It inspires me to think we all have some legacy to leave for coming generations. And I would like to acknowledge my Teacher, Yogi Bhajan, for the guidance he has given me and countless others. No longer alive, his endless hard work and gifts have left behind a great legacy of Teachings for upliftment of humanity.
