Meet Terrill Carter | Singer/ Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrill Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrill, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success, was simply going for my dreams. Becoming focused and determined … Waking up everyday and showing up for not only myself but for the dream I wanted to achieve in creating my debut solo album! I think most of the time we see what we want to achieve in life but don’t put in the work it takes to accomplish the goals. When I realized I was willing to endure whatever it took to complete my debut solo album “Feels Like This” … After everything it made me realize nothing is earned without hard work, focus, and dedication!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an R&B Singer-Songwriter with an impeccable range and vocal skills that showcases years of vocal crafting through my recordings. Often likened to and embodies the sophisticated sounds
of British Pop, R&B singers Mica Paris, Leona Lewis with the
innocence of Corinne Bailey Rae; sprinkled with Janet
Jackson and Jody Watley. I’m known for my velvety
smooth vocals and ability to deliver every song I perform
with conviction! A native of Baton Rouge, LA, my career
highlights began at the age of 13 when I recorded with
the DeBarge family, on a duet ‘I’m Still In Love With You’.
I also helped write lyrics for Kristina DeBarge’s first solo
album. I’ve had the pleasure of opening for Faith Evans, Eric
Benet, and Tweet at R&B Live Hollywood.
On my debut album “FEELS LIKE THIS,” I was honored to
have co-written alongside legendary super-producer, Preston Glass, and songwriter, Producer,
Christian Belnavis & Bruce Carter. The 11-track CD includes a remake of John Mayer’s hit song ‘GRAVITY’ featuring Ray
Parker, Jr. on guitars and guitar solo.
I have received blessings from artists David Slater and Jackie
Jack White on their acclaimed Country-Pop song, ‘EXCHANGE OF HEARTS’.
I put a contemporary
R&B, Pop twist on my album version of the track. Also on the project, is my lovely remake of Gamble
and Huff’s R&B classic, ‘You’re My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration’.
In addition to her music,
I hosts a Friday night live stream show on her YouTube Channel “FRIDAY
NIGHT LIVE KARAOKE”. The show has a cult-like following of enthusiastic karaoke lovers that tune-in. It
is engaging and interactive with an audience that participates throughout the show. I’m a feel good,
happy place type of artist with authentic R&B sensibilities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend was visiting the area we would totally stop by the JHud Show Audience in Burbank… We’d totally do the tourist thing and visit the wax museum, Chinese Theater, and go see the stars! My favorite stop would be to grab some dinner near the Santa Monica Pier and spend the rest of the night at Venice Beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Delwin Bruce Carter! I’ve been performing and singing since the very first day we met…. He has supported every idea or goal I’ve ever had or wanted to reach. It would have made my journey so complicated if I didn’t have a partner that is all in like my husband. He’s currently in a PHD Programs at the University of Santa Barbara and with all of his studies weighing him down, he finds the time and patiences to lift me up every chance he gets. I’m forever grateful for my husband and thanks him so much for all the support as I follow my dreams in music!
