We had the good fortune of connecting with Thea & Duane Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thea & Duane, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Harvey Center for Relationships is that what we do works. We work with couples, helping them fall back in love and, more importantly, stay in love. Most people make the mistake of getting relationship advice from their friends and family, which often makes their situation worse. Relationships require us to stretch in ways that are counter-intuitive and frequently bucks conventional wisdom. Doing what feels right often merely reinforces the stalemate. As licensed marriage and family therapists and certified Imago Relationship therapists, Duane and I assist couples and individuals with their unique romantic challenges. We teach them skills that break negative cycles of interacting, improve their communication, and enhance intimacy. Our goal is always twofold: to eliminate the negative and enhance the positive. Our mission is not only for couples to get along but to experience sustained ecstatic union.
What should our readers know about your business?
Harvey Center for Relationships is unique for many reasons. We are a couple that specializes in working with couples. Our professional work reflects our daily personal practice. Also, we don’t stop with just helping couples resolve problems. We help them envision a relationship of unlimited ecstatic potential. We are masters of the erotic arts and have developed a series of pleasure meditations for couples. Together Duane and I have over 40 years of experience helping couples improve their relationships. We are a family of therapists that spans two generations.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our home office is located a few blocks from Santa Monica Beach. We prefer not driving and staying WOL (west of Lincoln). When out of town guests visit, we love to take them surfing and then swing by Holy Guacamole on Main St. for tacos or Sunny Blue for omusubi. The next day we’d either bike ride or rollerblade on the beach boardwalk and have breakfast at Back on the Beach. Another favorite activity we’d share is shopping on Abbot Kinney and dining at Gjelina.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shout out to Helen La Kelly Hunt and Harville Hendrix for developing Imago Relationship Therapy. Their approach has helped thousands of couples around the world. It is an incredible experience watching a couple lower their defenses, understand one another more clearly, and fall more deeply in love. The Imago motto is, “Healing the world, one relationship at a time.” To continue this effort, Helen and Harville created Safe Conversations, an organization that brings their relationship technology to every community.
