Meet Theresa Cerros | Professional make up and hair artist & business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Cerros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision I made that significantly contributed to my success was leaving my 9-5 It pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to take ownership of my time, goals, and growth. Taking that leap not only sparked my entrepreneurial mindset but also taught me the importance of resilience, self-discipline, and staying focused on what truly matters. It was a defining moment that set the stage for everything that followed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a makeup artist, my art is all about enhancing natural beauty and helping people feel confident in their own skin. What sets me apart is my ability to combine creativity with a personalized approach—each look I create is tailored to the individual, making them feel like the best version of themselves. I believe makeup is about self-expression and empowerment.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me. Seeing the transformation in their confidence after a session is truly rewarding. What excites me the most is continuing to push my boundaries as an artist, experimenting with new techniques, and always learning. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and I love being a part of that.
Getting to where I am today professionally has definitely been a journey. It wasn’t always easy. Like many artists, I had to face uncertainty, self-doubt, and the challenges of building a client base. But overcoming those struggles was a huge part of my growth. I stayed persistent, worked hard to build my skills, and never shied away from feedback or learning from others. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s often the small, consistent steps that lead to big results.
I’ve also learned that collaboration is key. Working with photographers, stylists, and other creatives has been essential to my growth as an artist. I want the world to know that my brand is rooted in authenticity. I’m not just about making people “look good”—I’m about making them feel good, too. At the heart of my work is a passion for helping people discover their unique beauty and feel empowered in their own skin.
Ultimately, my story is one of perseverance, passion, and the belief that art is not just what you create, but how it makes others feel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d want to show them the absolute best time possible with a mix of good food, fun activities, and great vibes. Here’s how I’d plan out the trip:
Day 1: I’ll start with a cute brunch in Malibu soak in some views followed by walking and exploring the city. Grab an iced coffee and catch up on life.
We end the night heading over to my fav sushi place for dinner.
Day 2: Start the morning with a cozy breakfast at a local cafe.
Go on a walk at the beach or hiking trail.
Ending the Night by getting ready together and head over to a concert ending the night with tacos for dinner.
Day 3: Relax at home
Cook all meals at home, watch movies and relax.
Day4:
Start the morning with some Starbucks coffee straight into some self care appointments.
Nail appt
Facial
Massage.
Day 5: brunch in downtown at a trendy spot.
Get ready and head out for dinner at TAO or
JAVIERS then go bar hopping for some cocktails.
Day 6:
SHOPPING! Camarillo outlets are a must!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. His constant support, belief in me, and patience have been invaluable throughout my journey. He’s not just been my partner in life but also my biggest cheerleader, offering encouragement and strength whenever I needed it most. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him by my side.
