We had the good fortune of connecting with Thing of Twins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thing of Twins, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like taking risks are absolutely necessary for growth in success and discover new horizons. As an independent artists, taking risks is something we have faced over and over in our music career from high-schoolers into our adult life. At times we tend to fail harder more than times we succeed, but even though it ain’t much, it still fuels our spirits and putting fire in our bones to pick ourselves up and try again. This only further improves our experiences and helps stays resilient regardless of the outcome.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thing of Twins is an independent rock band from Los Angeles, We are Twin brothers, Carlos and Lucio Garcia and we are the mind and soul of our music creation, from performing our music on stage to directing our music videos and writing/recording the music we create because this band is more than just a band but an outlet in our creativity visually, lyrically, and emotionally coming from us and in our surroundings. From our early years, our first time performing for people was at our High School, Animo Venice Charter High-school in Venice, California, it was here where we started our path in our musical ambitions playing at school talent shows, out of school events and even our first time playing at a 21+ bar when we were 16. Playing these shows gave us a taste in what we can exceed in ourselves as musicians and also a mouthful of bitter taste we call our failures. If anyone who isn’t a musician ever claims that being really talented is the only key for success then they are absolutely wrong… kind of, because yes being talented helps but theres other major probabilities they are solely missing out in that claim because to us, the key to success is how much do you really want it? How much are you willing to lose sleep, lose time for others, play late late night shows only to have your set cut short, playing for empty rooms, having band members quitting on you constantly, and on the verge of calling quits ready to accept that this is as good as it will ever be. These are lessons we have learned along the way and still have on-going lessons to be learn, but with the hardships and our experiences, we use them to sharpen ourselves, wise our asses up and keep on pressing forward. Since then we have released 3 studio albums and have played 100+ shows as Thing of Twins whether they were good or bad shows they were all fun to perform. In all honesty, we wouldn’t be performing, writing, filming, recording if we didn’t love doing it all. We are hard workers and even tho it pays off or not we are absolutely loving every second of it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being LA natives, our personal opinion is avoid tourist-y areas where theres alot of people and expensive drinks with no buzz. If a friend came to visit we will take them places very much the outskirts of the city. Places like local bar/taverns like Joxers in Culver City, Cozy inn also in Culver City. For food we love hitting up Centinela Cafe in Marina Del Rey, Vees Cafe in Midcity, and Alexanders World Famous Tortas in Compton and depending on the night theres live punk bands or live karaoke. I guess its kinda of a tourist-y area but if you want to have a great boozy night there clubs in West Hollywood and in Silver Lake that’ll scratch that itch just fine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
-We want to dedicate this shout out to our parents, Juana Garcia and Lucio Garcia sr. for believing and supporting our musical endeavors. Our Brothers and Sisters, Family and Friends for following us in our long long path in our music career. And to all the bands, musicians and artist that we’ve come across over the years and some we yet to meet, we know the extreme difficulty in the road to success, following a dream almost impossible to achieve, but enjoying every second of it as we continue to ride along.
