We had the good fortune of connecting with This is a Moment Podcast and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige and Imia, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes us happy is storytelling–whether that is through music, TV, or movies. We both grew up with a love of the entertainment world and we’re fascinated with all its parts. We find joy in dissecting elements of art and pop culture and, of course, fangirling over our favorite artists. Our podcast, This is a Moment, gives us the opportunity to celebrate our favorite moments from the past, connect to moments in the present, and get excited about moments for the future.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What makes us different is, rather than criticize or tear down art, we like to “give people their flowers” as we discuss prominent moments in pop culture that affected us and deserve more recognition. Our story began when we met while majoring in theater at Pepperdine University. We first bonded while sitting next to each other in audition class. The friendship was solidified during a sleepover our sophomore year when we bonded over early 2000s pop culture. As two Black women who operate in mostly white spaces, we’ve often felt unseen when it comes to our range of interests. We appreciate “mainstream” culture, but don’t feel that same love when it comes to underrepresented topics that equally affect pop culture. This podcast was created to give fresh takes on pop culture moments, to create a fun space for Black women, and to share love and fandom with a larger community.
As an independent podcast, we work diligently to give our listeners our best. We are most proud of our new Patreon page where we create bonus episodes that discuss more niche moments, video content, and connect more intimately with our community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As Pepperdine Alum, we’d have to take you to some of our favorite Malibu spots. We definitely recommend eating breakfast at Paradise Cove. They have delicious food and you can eat right on the beach with your toes in the sand! We then recommend a drive down the pacific coast highway to view the beautiful scenery and eventually make your way to Santa Monica and make a stop at Rori’s Artisanal Creamery. They have the best ice cream. Then, you can end your night in the city at Escala restaurant and bar for some good food and great music. It is a Colombian and Korean restaurant with the best vibes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is dedicated to our listeners! Thank you for supporting us for two seasons. We love you!
