We had the good fortune of connecting with chanel Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi chanel, why did you pursue a creative career?
As someone that changed their major three times in college, — ultimately choosing English so I could graduate on time,— I knew at some point, I’d end up in a creative career.
I’ve always enjoyed the facets of fashion and styling which was one of the reasons I started my blog, ‘Chanelfiles’ while in college. At the time, (circa 2010), nobody even knew what blogging was but in continuing to create written and video content surrounding my personal style, it’s allowed me to not only share my love of fashion, but to-this-day, has afforded me a opportunities I never thought imaginable.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I started my personal style blog, Chanelfiles.com during my junior year of college. At the time, blogging was so unheard of that many-of-times when referring to it,‘I had to actually explain what a blog was.
Sequentially, I also started my YouTube channel (that is still alive-and-running today) sharing about my love of all things fashion. — Whether trend reporting, fashion favs or the upcoming trends-to-try, I built my brand simply by sharing what I loved.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, first-things-first would be a sweaty workout. Whether spin or boxing, reformer Pilates or HIIT, my friends and I live pretty active lives so that would definitely be first up on the agenda.
Next would be brunch somewhere local. We’re so blessed to live in the Bay Area has become even more of a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds and the food scene definitely reflects that.
Following brunch, shopping and sight-seeing would be a great way to show her around town and also burn off a few of those lunch calories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have always been my biggest support system. Whether I wanted to change colleges or careers, I’m blessed to have parents that have always trusted me to make wise decisions that I knew were best for me.
