We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Barsoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thomas, what is the most important factor behind your success?
As cliche as it may sound, I believe the main reason OC Hit has succeeded the way it has, is because it genuinely is such a passion of mine and never a ‘job’ or ‘business’. I never sat down with a strategy or business model and planned out OC Hit, it just sort of ‘happened’ and grew naturally out of me reaching out and giving back to local high schools and communities offering my time to talk to youths about the music industry and, in particular, song writing. That led to me starting little songwriting camps out of my house and that quickly grew to a point where I realized that this was my true calling and purpose in life and decided to devote myself 110% to the discovery and development of young, talented artists…and the rest, as they say, is history.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a former artist myself, I have been blessed with an incredible career, allowing me to travel and perform all over the world and make incredible memories and contacts along the way. And obviously gaining an enormous amount of knowledge and experiences (good and bad), which hugely benefit me today when I’m on ‘the other side’ of the business. So often in life, as you get older, you think to yourself, ‘if only I could go back in time and redo things, knowing what I know now’…and with OC Hit, I actually feel like I get to do just that in the sense, that I use all my experiences and contacts and relationships in the music industry, to pave the way for all our amazing, new artists and get to ‘correct’ some of the many mistakes I made as a young artist back in the day, thru the careers of my artists. I believe it gives our artists a lot of comfort and confidence knowing thatI have been there and done that and can safely guide them thru the good and the bad and the ugly of the music industry.
I never had half the talent that our OC Hit Artists possess but what I did/ do have, is an incredibly strong work ethic and belief that everything in life is possible to achieve with the right mentality, hard work and, of course, talent. I simply refuse to give up if I have a goal in mind, That got me a successful career as a singer/ songwriter and, I believe, has gotten me the success I have achieved with OC Hit so far. So those qualities are something I try my hardest to instill in our young artists, who may have all the talent in the world but not necessarily the work ethic and discipline to match.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge fan of the outdoors, so it would definitely include some activity of some sort. Hiking, mountain biking, surfing, fishing etc. I live just by Dana Point harbor, which is one of my favorite spots and go there, pretty much daily with my two English bulldogs. I also love taking my kids to the Fun Zone at Balboa Island and we always do the bike trail along the coast there, which is super fun. And I’m a massive food fan and could fill a whole interview with restaurant recommendations…maybe we should do that next??? : )
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people deserving of a shout out for helping me and my career with OC Hit. But none more than my extraordinary wife, Anna, who was a massive part of the becoming of OC Hit and the person who encouraged me to take, what we started at our house, to the next level and open up and actual business. She saw me light up with inspiration every time I found and helped a new young artist on their musical paths and she was the one who made me believe I could actually pull this off and still do to this day! And she was/is a ‘super mom’ to our two, young children, Noah and Jude and took amazing care of them and allowed me the time to devote to building a new company, So without her, OC Hit most definitely wouldn’t have happened! Theres a also the simple fact that I would never have lived in California if I hadn’t married her, as I’m from Copenhagen, Denmark and moved here together shortly after we met.
