We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia Madalynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It took me some time to embrace my entrepreneurial mindset. Growing up in a family that valued the stability of traditional employment, I never imagined myself straying from that path. Graduating college in 2020 amidst the pandemic was a turning point for me. Trying to find a traditional job was tough. I realized that if I have to put in the effort to network and search for opportunities, I would rather pursue opportunities in a field I am passionate about, entertainment.
This realization led me to view myself as a business entity and take on the role of representing myself. As I navigate through my career, I have developed a vision of establishing a meaningful presence within my community. My goal is to create opportunities for my loved ones, including the prospect of employing my younger relatives. I aspire to build a lasting legacy that serves as a foundation for them to achieve their own aspirations.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been passionate about acting, starting at a young age of 8. From screen acting to musicals, Broadway has always been a dream of mine. Along the way, I discovered a love for writing poems and scripts, as well as designing clothing. This new venture was born out of a desire to create clothing that not only flatters my body but also represents my inner self.
Storytelling has always been my passion, and I am fascinated by the intricate details that can be woven into a narrative. This passion and obsession drive all of my creative endeavors, which I see as interconnected. Characters truly come to life on screen through their clothing, music choices, and the experiences of the actor portraying them.
Today, I am here with a heart full of love for myself and others because I have chosen to be present in this moment. Every day, we make choices that shape our own paths, and I believe that whether we perceive where we are as good or bad is also a choice we make.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend of mine was visiting the area, I would suggest booking their trip in July for the most consistent and pleasant weather. Two highlights I would recommend are the Black Market Flea and the Ebony Beach Club, both showcasing the vibrant and welcoming community of black creatives in Los Angeles. It’s an experience I believe all of my friends would enjoy. I also like to put a unique twist on traditional activities with visitors, such as hiking to the Hollywood Sign or taking a scenic drive up PCH to Malibu with a stop in the valley for sandwiches on the way back. For a fun night out, I would love to take them to a Hardly Ever Home party – it’s one of my top picks because the crowd is such a cool blend of locals and folks from around the globe. I’d also book a karaoke room in ktown for a night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my fellow LA natives who are fighting for stability and ownership in our hometown. This includes my parents and grandparents who have supported me in pursuing all life has to offer. Without them, I wouldn’t be the creative I am today.
