We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Gabriel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Taking a peek into the world of acting and the entertainment industry, from a performers standpoint, I think the biggest thing that most people would be surprised to learn is that pursuing a career as an actor is truly one of the most unpredictable careers in the world. There is no single journey that is the same and you can go years before ever achieving your first big break. People often times label actors as “overnight sensations” when in reality most of us have been out here grinding for years before landing our first big job. We hear far more “no’s” than we do a “yes” and our reality is that casting doesn’t typically give us a verbal no, instead we are given the silent treatment and after a few weeks of hearing nothing we assume we didn’t book the role and so we move on to the next audition. It can be a very vicious cycle.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an actor and a creative has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire life. Being given the opportunity to create stories and share the lives of such diverse characters has been such a joy for me to experience. Something about being on stage or in front of the camera has always given me a sense of adrenaline and it’s something from a very young age that I knew I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Has it been an easy path? Absolutely not. Have I questioned whether I made the right career choice many times? Of course.

What sets me apart is my tenacity and my drive to not give up on myself. “No” has never been an option for me and having a positive outlook on my life and my career has allowed me to continue grinding. I’ve grown a very thick skin over the years and have come to realize that the “work” will only come if I put 110% into it. Every. Single. Time.

I opened the doors here at Blue Door Studio LA because I wanted to create a space where my fellow actors could come to hone in on their craft. To have a safe space to be vulnerable. To be themselves. To have no fear of judgement or ridicule. I too, selfishly, wanted to surround myself with like minded individuals who share an overall love and appreciation for performing. In an industry where you hear 1,000 no’s and only 1 yes, I wanted to invest in a space where other actors have the opportunity to tell their story and to create amazing audition tapes that they can be proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA truly has an endless roster of things to do. If I had only 1 week to share with my friends we would visit all the beautiful landmarks that California has to offer.

First, I would get us an Airbnb near the beach. You can’t come to California and not catch some sun and sand. Waking up every morning to a beautiful ocean view is priceless to me. A trip to LA would be incomplete without a walk down Hollywood Boulevard. We’d 100% do all the touristy things from taking photos in front of the Hollywood sign, touring some of the studios and strolling up and down Rodeo.

At some point we’d stop and grab ourselves a bite to eat at Bacari Silverlake. I love the vibes at this restaurant because it attracts such an eclectic group of people. The food is amazing and the setting makes me feel as though I’ve escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. I’m such a foodie so we’d be visiting all of my favorite spots. Continuing on we’d likely take a hike up to Wisdom Tree so they could experience the panoramic views of the city. Then we’d probably get all dolled up and put our dancing shoes on for a night out in West Hollywood.

My rolodex of things to do is truly infinite and my besties would need to stay for at least 2 weeks to even make a dent in all the things I’d want them to experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey here in LA has truly been a wild and crazy ride. The past 10 years of living here I’ve grown so much as a person and have dealt with a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Despite all of this, I have to give my biggest thanks to my parents for always being there to ground me. In an industry that can sometimes be so ruthless, my parents have always stuck by my side. They have encouraged me to never give up on the things that bring me true happiness and the things that I love most. Their unwavering support has meant more than I can ever express and for all of those moments when I was ready to give up, they pushed me to continue chasing the dream while also making sure that I stay true to myself. I owe them the world and I will continue to dream big for myself and for them.
